An upgrade was put out by vbulletin. The biggest change I ahve seen brought up by members is that the default skin is smaller, wider, and harder to use. the new 3.7 version is a preperatory version for the upcoming 4.0. The cga 2.0 default skin is a custom one designed for us during hte 3.6-4 era. My suggestion is to switch to cga 1.0. You can do it inside your user cp in the edit options section. If you want to temporarily compare the two you can change the skin in the lower left hand corner of hte page. Let me know which one you like most cga 1.0 or cga 2.0. I'll leave this open for 2 weeks..whichever has the highest votes will be the new default..:)

1.0 makes text easier to read, but I like the color scheme of 2.0 better.

Also, I miss the links (Directory, News, Affiliates, etc.) at the top of the forums.

Other than that, I think the variable width is a nice improvement.

i concur

purfun is version 1 with red though

would it be possible to make it version 1 with a drop bar thingy or color schemes?

Ever notice that this always happens when we change forum styles. People want to change things and have it resemble a previous forum style, which is totally acceptable. That leads me to my real question and the meaning behind my post: Why change the forums?

Is it an update?

If it is an update, why would it change the way the forums look?

Why not make it so that people can customize it the way they want it (so when updates come out their look does not change)?

I am asking these out of ignorance, not arrogance (I hope anyway...!), so if you could HCS, please shed some light onto this topic. There are always around 5 or 6 threads hanging around the forums about changing the look every time an update happens.

I personally don't mind this look, I like it as much as I got used to liking the old forum look.

As always, everyone here greatly appreciates what you guys do to make the forums what they are!

to make the skin customizable on the fly would require much more complex programming than an affordable solution we have now. Also that is not secure in way way shape or form. I also do not know of a product that allows you to make your own skin and upload it as the entire backend of the forums would have to rewrite itself on the fly to accommodate the display the user wants.

The changes made in the newest version of the forums are out of my control. I only install the new versions as they come out.

It goes the same with all software..look at vista as compared to xp.

im also sorry if im coming off rude or anything i just think it would be cool to have different colors and stuff to use

Since the change my text has become smaller and more unreadable :( . I changed to 1.0 and the background color changed to the darker blue but the text has remained small. I don't care what the forums look like I just want them readable T_T.

I'm fine with both, however version 2.0 has the vBulletin logo instead of CGAlliance at the top of the page...

If you want to design a skin for the forums I can put up a link to the vbulletin sdk and then you can draw one up and i can test it(if tek approves this has to go through him of course).

I would offer, but any windows machine that connected would cause the browser to consume over 500MB of ram and IE would crash as soon as the page loaded.
