Hunting Humar the Pridelord

Ulfbrikt is now sitting in a tree in the Barrens. No, I haven't lost my mind. I'm camping the tree for Humar the Pridelord.

Featured in Petopia's Top Choice: 50 Great Pets article, Humar is unique in that "no other black maned lion appears in the game except this guy." He also strikes with a 1.3 attack speed. I intend to tame him and replace my Moonstalker.

The problem is, I may have been a bit overzealous in undertaking this expidition. I'm currently level 23, planning to tame a level 23 elite. Is this even possible? If so, expert hunters, how do I make it happen? Concussion shot and freeze trap seem like obvious tools, but is there more I should know?

EDIT: Many thanks to Incendo for safely escorting me to the Barrens. :D

You got the right idea of how to tame it. Toss a trap down, turn on aspect of the monkey, then use either arcane or conc shot , maybe even auto-shot to pull it to the freezing trap. The only thing you have to remember is once the trap breaks just let the beast beat on you. If you take any hp/mana pots, first-aid or move, your tame beast will break. At that point you may or may not have enough mana to do another tame beast. The gy doesn't look far from the spawn point of the mob that you want.

After a bit of thought and a lot of camping, I decided to abandon my post outside Ratchet and select a different fast attack pet.

When Ulfbrikt was sitting up in that tree, I had an epiphany: I had run halfway across the world and spent roughly two hours (total, not consecutive) of game time to sit and wait to tame a pet for what cause? Because he looks cool? That's about the time I right-clicked my hearthstone and warped back to Stormwind.

I doubt I'll be back to the Barrens for Humar. Any time I spend in WoW I would like to spend with guildies. Camping a rare spawn deep in enemy territory is not the kind of adventure that is going to draw a lot of social activity.

Incendo: Again, thank you for running me out to the Barrens. If I ever create a Troll Hunter on Cenarius, perhaps we can make a more reasonable run out to tame Humar then. :)

Good call, its not really worth waiting while you can be leveling in that time. Hit 60 then get the zg bat, it's awesome from my experience (only down thing is its diet).

Now that spring break is over and my schedule has picked back up, I decided to postpone running the "level treadmill" and go exploring tonight. Having recently played Act II of the Orc bonus campaign in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, I was curious to see how similar the Theramore Isle in World of Warcraft matched the Theramore Isle as depicted in the WC3: TFT campaign.

I was fortunate to stumble upon the next quest in a chain called "The Missing Diplomat" and even had the chance to "meet" Jaina Proudmoore in-game. Quite cool.

(If I've never mentioned it before, I play MMO's for two reasons: social activity and exploring. The "level treadmill" holds no interest for me, nor does "grinding for gear." Everyone plays for different reasons, but collecting is not one of mine.)

That being said, I decided to set my hearthstone to Theramore Isle and venture as far out into the Barrens as possible. I was about ten paces into Wailing Caverns when I was killed by a level ?? Undead Rogue. Uncool.

After retrieving my corpse and fleeing Wailing Caverns, I decided to return to the spawning point of none other than Humar the Pridelord. While there, I met a level 28 Troll Hunter (Ulfbrikt is currently level 29) named Frogfoot. Keeping my distance, I ran around to the hill I had previously chosen to use as my "camping" spot. We exchanged a few emotes, and I logged for the night.

So, Ulfbrikt is now logged on a small hill in the Barrens waiting for a rare spawn. Again. :) The difference is that last time, I was playing more frequently and had not yet rolled my Night Elf Druid, Ithildin.

The "hunt" for Humar the Pridelord resumes. I hope it will end in success this time.

one of my big goals in this game would be to take down Rexxar from the bonus campaign from The Frozen Throne and record it and show it to all my friends who think Rexxar the Beastmaster is cool. *evil smile*

Maybe when expansion comes out some hunter could tame Misha, his level 62 elite pet

Hm, maybe I'll have to go pay Rexxar and Misha a visit and see how they are doing. I can't remember if Misha is tameable or not, might be in the expansion,. Although I think she would be immune to trap/fear/stuns/polymorph and if she hits for a huge amount then taming might be impossible (if someone heals and gets agro then the tame beast breaks).

Just a thought

As for taming Humar, I don't that will be a problem. He's level 24, I'm level 29, so no worries.

The frustrating part about "hunting" Humar is not being able to do much else with Ulfbrikt. I noticed earlier today that I have new mail, and Ratchet is the only nearby town. Every time I've visited Ratchet, I've been on the wrong end of a Horde player's weapon.

Still, I have Teyarmen to level 10 and Ithildin to level 12, so I have alternatives now. :)

If you stay close to a goblin guard/bruiser then you should have no problem with the horde because they get attacked if they touch you :) Although if it's a hunter that can kill you fast and FD then thats another thing.

Would you be so kind as to post the name, description and location of this "bruiser" character? I would normally explore a new town at my leisure, but Ratchet, being a neutral town, is an exception to the rule.
