Building a computer.

ok this is what i got so far. Let me know what you think. Notice there is no memory or video card. I got a 6800gt already and i can't figure out what memory to go with. I know i want 1 gb. What memory will best fit my specs so far and will the parts ive picked even run together well. Is there a site that recommend parts working together. Iam researching this myself, but i really dont know much about these products beening a first time pc builder, YET....I hope to learn alot. Do i need accessories. Fans etc. OH ill get the mouse and keyboard at my local best buy, along with my monitor. Unless some one knows a great deal on a nice monitor. this is all subject to change, i do like that case ty heiscommingsoon. What mother B ,cpu ,Memory would you guys put together.

looking looking... intel has a part of thier website that lists RAM that has been tested and is capatible with the Intel i875P chipset and motherboard. I know i can find it, i have before for another motherboard and it listed a bunch of RAM and companies that was tested. I know its here somewhere, took me like half and hour to find the site last time. i'll get back to you.

found it. exactly to your select mother board, D875PBZ,  yay, http://developer.intel.com/design/motherbd/bz/bz_mem.htm  click on "advanced tested memory, a window will come up, click continue and it will come up with 168 tested ram modules and each modules specs from different companies.  Then find one and do a google on the RAM module part number they list and find it at a store.  And here is direct intel site that lists ram tested http://developer.intel.com/design/motherbd/bz/bz_internalmem.htm And a advanced page explaining the memory tests and what passed and certified mean http://developer.intel.com/design/motherbd/genqual.htm#1

example, kingston 512mb PC3200 DDR400mhz ram module at newegg http://www.newegg.com/app....3alt1me

have fun, Talon

Now i got to look up my chipset, hehe

A lot of MB companies list somewhere on their site RAM they've tested with their board. I own a Chaintech ZNF3-250 (a good MB if you're looking into a Athlon 64 734 socket) and they have that stuff on their site for that board.

Im wanting to do soemthin like that....but i all i need are upgrades like more RAM and a new P4 chip...but I aint got cash..im sellin some of my old stuff for money but im plannin that for gettin a DeathMetal stompbox for my guitar.........sniff* my comp sux so bad..its barely gettin by playing CS......

GIVE METALXBENXCORE A DOLLAR!!!!!!! haha i just want to see my brothas reation to this, i have teh worst comp of all!!! HELP!!!! and winter is comin by and it gets hecka cold here in Oregon im not even kidding....all im asking for is HELP!!!!!!!!!

tibido, dont forget a Serial ATA power adapter for your serial ATA hard drive.  The standard P4 power supply has 4 pin D power hookups to plug into EIDE hard drives, and cdroms optical drives.  You have to buy a Power adapter to adapt the 4 pin D hookup to serial hookup for you 250gb hard drive, unless your motherboard comes with one already.  If not, then they are about $7-10 per adapter.  For a case, your going to want a 8-10+ bay case, ATX form factor.  You probably want a fan slot and fan in the middle of a window on the side to cool your Ram and motherboard chipsets.  You want a fan slot and fan in the front to cool your hard drive (7200 rpm hard drives get hot quick, or at least mine with out a fan cooling it) and probably with your graphics card, you are going to want a fan slot and fan in the back panel above off to the left of your case in the back.  If you run into graphics cooling trouble then use this http://www.xoxide.com/fancard.html a PCI dual 80mm fan card to cool your graphics or this http://www.xoxide.com/3dedge.html a adjustable verson with a third fan for graphics cooling.  The power supply already has 3 fans in it.  If a case has a fan slot in the top of the case, that wouldnt be a bad thing either.  I dont like to recomend or show a specific case because i get construtive critism, so you can decide.

This is a website i use to look for cases at... http://www.xoxide.com/allcases.html

Have fun-yes i do this when i get bored, vitually put together computer systems.

For CPU, (i hope im not late) I don't recommend the Prescott ones (along with Hescominsoon) the 1mb or 2mb cache may seem to help, but yes like 5-6% performance isn't worth all the money. Also prescott cpu gets pretty hot compared to the Northwood. Northwood is more heat-capable and it's more durable in overclocking ways too.

For Videocard, I recommend going with ATI since I'm an ATI fan but u won't go wrong with either ATI or nVidia.

Suposing if your going for high end ones, ATI radeon x800 pro/xt, or nVidia GeForce 6800 GT/ultra will do.

If not, Step right below and go for 9800pro/xt or GeForce FX5900/50

gotta run, prepare for format tomorrow :x

Sorry if i am repeating anyone, but the AMD athlons are generally better for gaming and... cheaper!  I just upgraded... like an hour ago from a 2800+ (thats going to my brother) to an AMD 64 3000+.  the processor was 199.00 and the mobo was 109.00 with a 50 cash back.  800mhz fsb too... not too bad $325 just to the mobo and processor.  Ram can be costly.  512 from kingston is the best, thats what i would get (if you get ram thats higher than what your computer is supposed to run, then most of the time it will be more stable.)

Heres my computer:
Soyo CK8 Dragon plus
   109.00
AMD Athlon 64 3000+
   149.00
ATI Radeon 9500 Pro (128 mb of ram)
   (when it was new) 199.00
Creative Audigy ZS gamers edition
   129.99
768 megs of 2100 ram (DDR 266) <cries> ...its not Kingston
tounge.gif

   129.99
40 gig Western Digital Caviar HD 7200 rpm
   59.99
Running Windows 2000, because XP is stinky poo...
   159.99
<Other stuff goes here>
All in all about $1000.00 dollars

You will want to look into SATA hard drives.  Their ribbons are smaller and the transfer rate is alot faster, the mobo i have had it, just need a new HD.

Gl hope i helped

so amd is better for gaming? Ive been programmed intel all my short lived computer life. If amd is better and cheaper for gaming then iam in. So amd athlon 64 3000 is what id want. Or something around there. Ill start looking.

ok Talon and I picked out new core specs with amd cpu. I like the way it looks right now. When we're done, ill post specs so you guys can tell me what ya think.:D Talon is beening a big help. Research etc. iam having alot of fun.

Ok here it is. what do you all think, tell me what you would do. The big question is.....is this amd cpu and mobo we picked out better then the intel ones I previously pick:

I am over voice and video helping tib build the computer. So cross your fingers it all works and no DOA stuff.

Guess he got the new chipset of intel. Good thing he picked the right CPU. I'm sticking to i875 (my current) and upgrading it compatibly, which may happen soon :| not sure htough.

nice choice.

this is what he has, and a raptor WD 10,000rpm hard drive.  Sata, 8mb buffer, windows xp home stand alone OS.  Still working on putting it together but its going good so far.

Came up with a problem.  The bfg 6800gt overclocked graphics card wont fit in the case or in the PCI express slot.  The actual gold connector part, some of it, is hanging out and not in the slot itself.  So does anyone have a solution for this, a bridge, or just get another graphics card?
