A question of hit rating came up again, I am posting this from the hunter forums ...

At level 80, 32.79 hit rating provides 1% of hit. You need 9% to be capped against mobs 3 levels higher than you (at level 80, all bosses are considered to be 3 levels higher than you). You must always round up to the next higher integer hit rating.

So, if you are a draenei or have a draenei in your party within 30 yards:

0/3 Focused Aim: (9 - 1) x 32.79 = 263 hit rating required to cap
1/3 Focused Aim: (9 - 2) x 32.79 = 230 hit rating required to cap
2/3 Focused Aim: (9 - 3) x 32.79 = 197 hit rating required to cap
3/3 Focused Aim: (9 - 4) x 32.79 = 164 hit rating required to cap

If you are not a draenei and do not have a draenei in your party:

0/3 Focused Aim: 9 x 32.79 = 296 hit rating required to cap
1/3 Focused Aim: (9 - 1) x 32.79 = 263 hit rating required to cap
2/3 Focused Aim: (9 - 2) x 32.79 = 230 hit rating required to cap
3/3 Focused Aim: (9 - 3) x 32.79 = 197 hit rating required to cap

If you add in the hit food (Snapper Exteme +40 hit) and Elixir of Accuracy (45+ hit), you should have no problem being hit capped and focusing on crit / ap (for BM)
 
Bob mentioned to me today that our hit rating got changed at the beginning of December of 08. We are now 8% not 9% so hit cap is 260-ish.
 
Are you referring to the studies that indicate that the hit cap for special attacks may actually be +8.2%, rather than the previously thought 9%?

Yep. .That’s right the level 80 Hit Rating Cap is now at 8% instead of 9%.

Also, Focused Aim only affects the Hunter’s Hit and has NO impact on your pet’s dps. That means if your using a 3/3 Focused Aim to get you from 5 - 8%, your pet will remain at 5%.

Also, for Pet hit, everything is rounded down. So if you have 7.99 Hit, w/o Focused Aim (which is basically the cap), your pet will be at 7% and still have a 1% miss.

Yep, the hit cap seems to be in the low 8.x% range for yellow hits and one hand/two handed white hits.

Another interesting note, I have been tinkering with my expertise a bit. I've been purposefully lowering it to find out just how much I actually need to be soft capped(push dodge off the table). Currently running with 20 expertise skill(5%) + 1% from warrior talents and have yet to see a single dodge of the course of multiple raids. This includes a couple weeks of 10 man OS, Vault and a few 25 man Vault and 1 25 man OS.

Given the number of hits I get in over the course of a single raid, this is a fair sized sample.

Just thought I would throw that out there, obviously useless to hunters, but I didn't feel like starting a new thread.
