Greetings, Daevas!

We have a lot of exciting news to share with you today, so let’s get to it!

We understand that you’ve been patiently waiting for more information surrounding server merges and free character transfers, and after a few weeks of frantically finalizing all the details to share with you, it’s finally time to spill it! Aion server merges will take place on Wednesday, July 7, 2010. Of course, with something as complex as a server merge, we’ve put together a comprehensive FAQ to help answer any questions you have about what you need to know and do so that the merge happens smoothly for your characters.

On July 8, our character transfer service will be opening for all Daevas. To thank you for waiting patiently for this service, and to help make our server merge a much more enjoyable experience for everyone involved, we’ve decided to give our players unlimited free character transfers until August 18. During this period, you are welcome to transfer as many characters as you desire. After the free period is over, character transfers will be available for monetary fee.

Following the server merge and the commencement of character transfers, we have plans for a number of cool events and contests that will take place both in and out of game. We’ll have more information in July, but this is a major undertaking for the community team, so we’re excited to see what you think of the result!

We still have a lot of work ahead of us, but our anticipation and excitement is peaking as we quickly approach our one-year anniversary and the release of Aion®: Assault on Balaurea™. Fly high, Daevas!

That means that very soon, I will have all my characters together, and a full set of daevonian armor! Woohoo!

Looks like it will be delayed a week:

"Greetings Daevas,

We want to update you about some changes relating to the upcoming server merge. We are setting in place processes to resolve same-name conflicts once the upcoming server merge takes place. In order to provide a fair and just resolution, we are changing the server merge date to July 14, 2010. "

Bah, what's really upsetting is how their going about with name changes. It looks like they are going to append every name with the server suffix, give you name change ticket, and then it's 1st come 1st serve. Which is really making a lot of people mad, an me as well. I'm among those that paid early for the chance to reserve a name. There are no other Kan's but still the possibility of losing that name is upsetting.
I think they have a petition in the forum by players against this.

Edit: It looked like the players were going to make a petition. But everyone is just making their own grip thread. Oh well, hopefully they still get through.

I'm not worried about losing names, but I wouldn't want people to take "Doula" and start posting nasty things, since I advertise for a Christian Legion with her. =\ Beyond that, I don't care about my character's names.

But I WOULD like to get my Daevonian Armor on at some point this century...

I'm a bit disturbed about how they are handling the names. I think if someone grabs Zandaris, I would just quit. That has been my main character's name for almost 11 years now. I can't count how many times I've ran into people that have known me from other games and remembered by name.

All my other character's names I have had for some time now too. Some like Cognas go back almost as long as Zandaris while others like Valdimere are pretty new, 4 years or so. Either way the fact they would give someone the opportunity to steal someone's name and identity by changing everyone's name just seems absurd. Especially when there is no conflict involved.

Personally I believe anyone who doesn't have a name conflict should keep their name as is. Conflicts should be resolved by a flow chart that starts with whether the account is active. Next is whether the character is level 10 or greater. Next is when the character was created. That should do it. That would give active accounts priority, keep name sitters with characters below 10 from beating out a level 50 and it in the event that you have 2 characters above 10 the one who created their character first would win the lotto.

Just my 2 cents.
