Cs tweaking guide

No problem. Believe it or not, tweaking your config files can really help. Also, getting the latest drivers for your audio & video cards help a lot too.

Keep in mind that this article was based off of CS 1.1, and was updated on March 19, 2001. So, it's alittle outdated.
 
Yes, it's a little outdated but the variables haven't changed to my knowledge. The only thing that has changed really is the gameplay, weapons, GUI, etc.

I will look for a more recent tweaking guide but CS is at the point where not much is changing often.
 
oh come on. this is old news.

way back when I used to get 30fps MAX on my Matrox g400 (wonderful 2d card, bad 3d... thats the company's entire grafix card lineup description), I tweaked the config, autoexec, video settings, etc. enough to get me to 45fps.

I think thats the reason I get a steady fps of 85 normally, now (except on huge scenes). my config has fps_max 85. I don't think my fps_modem is high enough... hmm...

Okay my confession is I am HORRID at this game. I was thinking reading the article would help me get better. Then I realized OH MY GOSH THAT IS A LOT OF INFORMATION. I am looking to get better and I am guessing if I did all the little ticks and clicks I would be better. But, don't I need a better plan and skills first?

I've had cable for some time, and setting the refresh rate any higher than 85 is stupid, because my monitor max is 85hz (fps)

fps_modem should be 100, though.
