Faction Switching Coming Soon

Blizzard have begun work on a new service that will let players switch sides. Alliance to Horde. Or Horde to Alliance. Whichever way you want to turn your coat, you'll be free to do it.

There'll apparently be rules governing the use of the service, but in a nutshell, here's how Blizzard explain it:

There's still much work to do and many details to iron out, but the basic idea is that players will be able to use the service to transform an existing character into a roughly equivalent character of the opposing faction on the same realm. Players who ended up creating and leveling up characters on the opposite factions from their friends have been asking for this type of functionality for some time, and we're pleased to be getting closer to being able to deliver it.

I'd have to think that they'll still force a "one faction per account per server" rule, to keep scenarios like "hey, would you mind logging on to your horde toon so I can do the [whatever] achievement by [ganking/throwing flowers at/hugging/repeatedly slapping him with a water balloon] him/her?"

I recall them coming down very hard on "translator" addons several years ago that translated horde-eses into Alliance-ish ... I can't see them just throwing up their hands on the whole faction allegiance concept.

I would hope they still keep that in place for pvp servers for sure.
 
On PvE servers, you can already have Horde and Alliance toons. On PvP servers, they just might cause all your toons (if you have 10, all 10) to switch at say $50 a toon. Could be very expensive. While on a PvE server, maybe it will be toon by toon.

But that would be awesome.. We could bring Mustard Seed to the same server as Redeemed.
 
I was reading the postings, and it looks like that when you move a toon it will become a race of that faction. Not sure, but it reads that way...

If that is the case, it's bunk I have a high level Lock.

Which you don't play.....
 
When switching factions, the race you switch to must naturally have the class available to it. So if you have an Undead priest, you can not switch to a gnome priest. Only human, dwarf, night elf and dreanai are available. You can not use this service to switch from Undead priest to a troll priest.
