For your information

Something about not talking and using the... Right side of your brain allows you to snipe more. When I do shut up (rarely), I can snipe a lot more. Clicking on heads should be easy.

Try the Huntsman? >.>

I currently don't have a headset so no talking, except to myself.

Tired the Huntsman didn't help.

Being good at sniping takes practice. One thing I love about sniping as that I am still getting better at it even though it is by far my best and most played class. If you play it consistently enough, you will eventually get more used to how it works and get better at it.

My only real advise would have to be if you play sniper, in any game, you must be unpredictable. This is my greatest flaw, I tend to play maps in a pattern and I pay for that a lot. If you play with the same people a lot like we do, then any skilled player will start to predict where you are or where you are going and beat you. Thus, why Gerbil (Spy), Keero (Pyro), and D4rthSp0ck (Sniper) can be very effective at stopping/slowing my kill ratio.

I'm not saying that I'm the best, I'm far from it, but I was pretty good at it in CS, used to be one of our snipers in our comp. team. So, that skill/training has helped in TF2. I've noticed that any new FPS I tend to start of stronger then most, but get surpassed once others play the game more.

Another important thing while sniping is to prioritize your targets well. First priority is almost always going to be other snipers, since they are the only people that can kill you from long range. After that you want to focus on doing as much damage to the enemy team as possible, usually by picking targets you can kill in one hit. My targeting priority is usually something like this: Sniper (most important) > anyone standing still (easy kill) > Tek (for some reason my bullets just home in on his head) > medic/heavy > engineer (especially if there are important buildings that need to be destroyed) > spy > soldier/demo > scout > pyro. Engineer buildings are a high-priority target if you can take it down before it gets fixed.

The other thing to consider while choosing a target is what each shot will kill.
Heavies are a good target to go after, but you have to make sure you hit the head and are at least half charged with your scope (fully charged if the heavy has a medic). One useful piece of information is that a fully charged body shot will kill snipers, spies, engineers, medics, and scouts (as long as they aren't overhealed). If you have a fully charged scope and are aiming at one of those classes, just make sure you hit them - headshots don't really matter. A fully charged bodyshot will come take out most of the health on any other class, so you can use them in other situations if you think the target is already damaged. An uncharged headshot does about the same damage as fully charged body shot, so make sure you charge your scope about half way before shooting the head of a soldier or anyone who is overhealed.

Side note: A kill is a kill. People may complain about body shots, but all that really matters to me is that my target dies.

Oh, and my FPS username is d4rthsp0ck, by the way. Grimbeorn = d4rthsp0ck.

Yep. I knew it.

Even when we don't know what character Tek is, he's like a lightning rod to dying first. Always fun when he plays TF2. ^___^

Come to think of it, that is becoming more true of when I play spy as well. He is really hard to backstab because he is paranoid, but if I just shoot him with the ambassador I often get head shots.

I'm was not the greatest sniper in fact I was a horrible one but I've raised my rating to decent since I changed how I play it (I was also forced to become a better sniper post-ambassador :( ).

1. Look for friendly sgs and try to stay around them if you are going to zoom in for a while. Though I've been taking more quick shots rather than waiting for target/charge shots lately. You miss a lot but you shoot more to make up for it. It helps a little with spies too.

2. No scopes are easy peasy, learn to do them instead of zooming all the time. It's only 50 damage but it's very powerful especially if you are following around others who will weaken or finish off the target. The accuracy of the no-scoped rifle makes the smg next to useless imo.

3. Learn to listen. This helps all classes but especially one who has a limited field of vision. Not only can you hear a near de-cloak but you can hear a plethora of useful info. Footsteps, gunfire or any player noise will tell you what is going on from extreme distances. I've often detected which direction to be zoomed in by listening. You can even take it farther by watching the scoreboard (like any good spy does :p). Example: Friendly player soldier "Bob" goes over the hill and you hear mini-gunfire. Checking the scoreboard you find Bob dead. What do you think is going to come back over the hill?

4. Don't try to out shoot enemy snipers. I try not to attempt out shooting snipers like Whon or Darth if I can help it XD. Once I know they are out there I generally try to switch locations, attack from odd angles, with odd pauses or wait until I see a friendly leave which may distract them long enough for me to get a shot off.

I love ducking when I know a sniper's aiming at me. Buys me plenty of time, especially as a heavy. xD

Jarate + no scopes also work fairly well too.

That works sometimes, but make sure you also account for the health of your target. If you take quick shots you have to hit the head and your target can't be too high on health, or he survives.

As keero said, jarate also helps with this. The SMG can be useful, but I don't find it nearly as useful as jarate.

Good strategies for difficult enemy snipers, but moving will only get you so far, since those weird angles are rarely in good sniping spots and leave you vulnerable to other enemy classes. Waiting for a friendly to move out in front of you works pretty well most of the time, but that one really depends on the terrain and how good the enemy sniper is. If you aren't fast enough then the enemy sniper gets back in cover before you can get him, but if you are too fast then you get sniped before your ally does. If you really want to get good at sniping you are better off working on your aim so that you can take out the enemy sniper from a good sniping spot, even if that means you have to beat him in a shoot-out. Personally I love those situations because few things help you improve your sniping skills more than trying to take out another sniper like that.

Another good thing to do while sniping is use spots where you can only be hit from a limited number of places. The more open the terrain around you is, the more likely you are to get hit from an angle you didn't expect or by someone who snuck by without you seeing them. Sometimes you just can't cover all the angles, but at the very least you want to limit the number of places you can be sniped from, especially if you can move back and forth to check out more areas. Actually, moving back and forth is a good general sniping strategy because standing still always makes you an easier target.
