I've been looking at the freelancer website and stuff the last few days and considering buying it, but I was wondering if there's anyone here who plays it online. And if there's anyone here that actually knows if I should buy it. It looks like a tight game and I just cant decide!

Its that microsoft space combat game, rite? I played the demo if it is that one, and I concur with most reviews, it kind of suxored

i auctually liked it. though i wouldt consider buying it.

I was a big Freelancer fan. Check out the CCGR Review.

I still read the Lancer's Reactor about twice a month to keep up on what's happening. I thought the single player game was absolutely fantastic!!! But rather short. Once you are done with the single player campaign, you are free to continue exploring the universe. What people didn't like is the lack of variety in mission types. So for many, the game got old real quick. For me, I enjoyed finding some cool looking planets and space stations, wrecked/abandoned ships, and new weaponry. There are now many mods for the game, giving you different gaming experiences.

I highly recommend checking out the demo. It is a good idea of what the game is like. I think the game can easily be found for $20.

I haven't actually played it in months. I think about it every so often, but my game playing time has drastically decreased. I'm not sure I'd play multi-player. Multiplayer was extremely buggy and had so many other issues, I stopped playing it on-line. Servers were constantly going away and I got tired of restarting my character every few days.

I thought Freelancer was a unique space flying game, get to be who ever you like! I liked being a Merchant, made twice $$ just trading cargo than killing ships or doing bounty hunter kills, hehehe. Those were the days...

I have the game, but. . .I run it on low specs.

but from what ive played, I have to agree with SSquared.

except that the game isnt $20 here in canada.

if i had an actual faster computer, I would play it again.

Cool thanks guys those comments were helpful. Yeah I'm getting a new computer soon hopefully with a good gamecard. So.... yeah I will check out the demo.
Oh yeah what game cards do you recommend the most? I'm totally out of it when it comes to game cards!

Well, if you're a cheapie, and are low on money buy the nvida geforce fx 5200 or the radeion 9200, if you have some money buy the fx 5400 or 5600 or the radeon 9600

Can't help ya on the video card suggestion. I haven't kept up with them since the FX came out. But I must say, Freelancer scales very well. I originally played on a GeForce 2MX and it played quite well. The graphics were pretty good. When I upgraded my card to a GF4, the graphics were even better, as the game automatically adjusted and added all sorts of cool effects.

Oh boy!  Sounds nice!

Heh! Wasn't it you, Nspire, who originally posted about Freelancer last year when the demo came out? I had never heard about the game and I think you posted about the demo and said something like..."You have GOT to download the demo immediately!" I downloaded immediately and I was hooked.

I should have also mentioned, there is a newer game called X2 which is supposed to be like Freelancer, but with much better trading and monetary system.  I've been  confused from reading reviews.  They like it, but they say it is lacking in punch.  Anyone have any experience with the game?

Probabaly, I'm a sucker for fancy looking space games.

Yurp, I have that one but I haven't played it very much yet (KOTOR and The Specialists have been taking up my gaming time). After I get the hang of it, I think I will like it.

Flying around inside the space stations trying to find a parking spot is suprisingly fun.

I took out Freelancer last night and played for a bit. Quite fun!

Another, similar game is Riftspace. This is an independent developer. I have his previous game (StarWraith) which is a total blast. That was more of your straight space combat shooter. Riftspace has you take jobs, hire pilots, and more. A lot more in-depth than Freelancer. I have the demo. Once I find a job, I may buy the full game. The developer is super nice and listens to fans. With StarWraith, there were new versions constantly, as he continued to improve the game based on user feedback.
