Hi all! Just wanted to drop a note to say hi. I'm not sure if I am going to be keeping my account active much longer for now. I really hadn't had much time to play this last month or so and then my gaming ADD kicked in and I have found myself playing Vanguard this past week.

I am really liking Vanguard, its really like EQ2 for me. Yes its still buggy but nothing game breaking and I am having a blast so far. The only real problem I have is that I don't have a guild like TF over there.

If anyone else is playing please let me know. I am currently playing a ranger on the RP Preferred server, but I would gladly move to hook up with players I already know.

Vanguard is the real Everquest 2. It was created by the original EQ group that left during the EQ2 development but it is already published by SOE. Its buggy and has a lot of work to get it even release ready, but they ran out of money and had to release before it was really polished for a release. That said, I am still really liking it.

As for the death penalty, its not really any different from other games. You can't lose a level but you don't progress until you pay of your debt. WoW is the only game I know of that doesn't have a exp penalty.

Overall vanguard is a much more in-depth game. The diplomacy system is awesome and very addicting. Basically its a "Magic: The Gathering" type of card game that allows you to interact with entire villages and towns and cities. Players can influence a particular area with it. The crafting system is insane. I just started to figure that out and its more envolved than anything else I have played. But at the same time there are harsher penalties that in WoW, like the exp death penalty. If you fail on making an item while crafting you will lose the materials. But they make crafted items very desirable from what I have been told.

They are also working on getting the Guild housing in place and they are comparing it to SWG's guild halls. I haven't made it to a major city yet to see the player housing thats available but it sounds cool. The world is HUGE, but they don't instance any of the dungeons. They can if they want from what I have read and they might make battlegrounds like that eventually.

All in all I have liked it.

Vanguard is very similar to Eq 1, which I played for 3 yrs. I am very glad you are happy with it. It fits nicely for some play styles.

After playing Wow for one day, I canceled my Eq account, and will never go back. Eq 1 and Vanguard are more for folks that enjoy getting carpal tunnel from the 1000 combines to create a one item in professions, and loosing the items that you have worked hours to obtain from a single fail; who don't mind loosing 8 hours of game play worth of exp gain in 1 or 2 deaths; who enjoy having to group on all quests to get anything done. That is not my play style, nor do I have time to advance my character in games like this.

The world is HUGE, but they don't instance any of the dungeons.

Welcome to spawn camping:) I never played Eq 2, so I don't know if it is as rampant and spawns as fought for as in Eq 1, but this is all that not instancing areas creates. You pick one area that has a couple spawns and call it in ooc, and stay at that spot for as long as your group stays together. If anyone takes spawns from your camp that you have called, they are ks'ing, or kill stealing and it gets announced in ooc, so that no one will group with that person.

Eq 1 introduced Ldon's towards the end of the time I stopped playing, which were instanced dungeons for one group of 6, that was all yours without worrying about 'camping' it, or waiting in line for a certain area for hours. WoW has taken this instancing to wonderful extremes by making all their dungeons instanced.

I am not sure if Vanguard has put in ways to keep spawn camping down or not, but this was no fun in Eq 1.

Lord of the Rings Online does not have a death exp penalty that I have seen. I don't know if they are planning on instituting one for when it goes live. It is a nice game, similar to WoW and Eq, but taking some of the best from both, and from other games also.

WoW just does not have the time sinks in it that the Eq developers like to put into their games. It works well for working mama's. I am definitely a care bear and enjoy being one:)

I was in the Vanguard closed beta for several months. Since phase 2 or 3 I think it was. Needless to say, I rarely logged on. The game (in its current state at the time) held zero appeal to me. I hear that it has gone through many changes upon release and it is now at least playable. Like many others, I lived in the world of Norrath for many moons and like Tinie, the thought of exp penalties upon death, doing insane corpse runs, and even medding *shudder* make me not want to go back to a game like that.

Vanguard was indeed funded by Microsoft in the beginning, but at the end of phase 1, they decided that they wanted to release it to XBox Live and Sigil (Brad McQuiad, also an origional desiginer for EQ1) pulled the plug. In their mad scramble, they ended up crawling back to $oE to fund them and made a deal that Sony would not be allowed to touch game design (Right). In the end, they ran out of money yet again and pushed a release that was far from ready, but I hear it is doing well. Vanguard will appeal to that group that still loves EQ1 and everything about it. Yes, the spawn camping and guild steamrollings did indeed stink. However, they also brought a certain level of fellowship that will never be seen in an instanced world.

The graphics are on par with EQ2 and do look wonderful. I prefer the almost cartoonish feel of WoW myself, but I seem to be in the low percentile on that one. The crafting is indepth and well thought out and the new diplomacy system I simply love. There are certainly enough races to choose from and I think 16 classes as well. More information can be found at www.vanguardsoh.com if you are interested in checking it out.

Now, to find time to level up my Druid in WoW as it has always been my favorite class, I was just tied down to a grumpy mage but have found new freedom :)

Actually this is one of my concerns but I haven't really spent time trying to find out if this is going to be the case. The one thing I love about WoW is that you can run a dungeon and its all yours. As a completey casual player I was thrilled with this concept. Then again, it looks like crafted items will in most cases be better than drops so as long as I can make money or craft it myself it will be ok. No worries about KSing, the mob becomes owned by the person who first attacks it but others can help out unlike EQ2.

Hey I have a level 25 ranger and 11 warrior on Florendyl (Roleplaying preferred) server. My guild, Chosen Legacy is a mature, family friendly guild but not "Christain" per say. Basic charter is:

The basics of our charter are that we are a family friendly guild created by a group of like minded gamers who believe in having a quality gaming experience in which we all help each other and have fun. Roleplaying is preferred, not enforced. Cursing is prohibited, including implied cursing. (Please refrain). We are a group of mature players and seek to grow our guild into a name that is well liked and untarnished amongst the world in which we live in. Just have fun and play nice, all the rest of the details fall into place after that.

If your interested please send me a /tell
