Hell's Precipice & Pulling

Well...as might be expected HP is giving me a hard time. I know that I can beat the mission and get through it, I just stubbornly don't want to change my build until I have capped the skill that I'm looking for. But...

I really do need advice on pulling. Up until this point I thought that I was doing well, but here I can't seem to avoid aggroing the whole lot of enemies. Last night a guy was telling me to use ctl + space bar to pull. I didn't get it last night and still don't. Can someone please explain the mechanics of it to me. When you guys pull what buttons are you using and how exactly are you doing it?

As always thanks.

I carry a longbow to pull - I'm an elementalist, not a ranger, and have zero (0) points in anything rangerish. I understand a flatbow might be slightly better.

Actually, ctrl+space targets an enemy - not pulls them. When you hit that combo you will see a little target next to your name in the party list. Your heroes and henchies then focus on that target until it is killed.

Pick up any bow - preferably a longbow or flatbow for the extra range - and take it out to see how pulling works. That's how I got through Hell's Precipice.

Also - I have my bow set up as a weapons unit so I can toggle between bow and wand or staff.

The targeting thing makes sense now. I just couldn't figure out if it was supposed to be pulling the enemy because it wasn't working. I thought I was doing something wrong.

I have always used a flatbow or longbow to pull in the past. I also have a shortbow and a hornbow all equipped to change quickly depending on the situation. My problem here is that when I pull it seems almost impossible to pull just one or two enemies. When I pull one, even if it's separated from the pack the rest just rush in when it gets hit. Is there a way to avoid that? I also have my henchmen and heroes flagged so they don't rush in and aggro anything.

Am I doing something wrong or is it just the mission being difficult?

Even for my non ranger characters, they all use a flatbow for pulling. Also a good tip is flag your heroes/henchies away so they don't unnecessarily follow you when pulling. Thus, shoot the enemy and run back to your flagged heroes/henchies for the fight. A good pull is when only the enemy's lone group is aggroed from the bow shot and follows to the point where you can safely fight them.

Ya, I always have my Darksteel longbow as my 4th weapon slot (f4). When pulling with heroes/henchmen, it's best if you flag them back a little ways. Not totally out of the way, but once you start attacking with your bow, they should be close enough that they can come help you if you can't pull back far enough, but far enough away that they won't run to attack your target when you start pulling them.

About the ctrl + space idea: It's not so much as pulling, but as sending your henchmen in first so they take the brunt of the damage. When you have an enemy just outside your aggro range and you hit ctrl + space your henchman should run in and attack.

The mission can be difficult. Where exactly are you having the problems? Is it further in the mission in that lava pit area?

Yeah, it's the lava pit area.

Actually, I just capped Panic!! That was the skill I was looking for. Now I've switched to a R/E conjure frost build that is much more effective, especially coupled with winter. My dps is much higher now and the titans are falling much faster. R/M doesn't do nearly as much damage, but had to do it for the cap.

Thanks for the tips. It seems like I'm doing most things right, just need to fine tune a couple aspects. Last night I think the guy I was playing with just wanted me to call the target.

Is it possible to just pull just 1 single enemy in this mission or will their group always come also?

There are a few enemies roaming about that can be pulled individually - but for the most part they are connected with a group. Pull one - pull the group[.

I often flag just over the rise where you enter the area of the Armageddon Lords and pull the spawning guys one at a time. It takes longer but it gets the job done. Then I move around and pick up one group at a time then take care of the portals. Again, it takes longer but I have been through there by myself in hard mode and made it fine.

Done and Done!!!! Hell's Precipice is no more! Thanks for all the advice and help guys. Once I switched my build it was on. I am a happy, happy man tonight.
