I don't understand farming....

Hey All,
I have been trying to farm with my 55 N/Mo because I have run low on funds. I usually hunt hydras in the desert because I don't know what else I can hunt without getting interrupted. I don't understand how farming works- I have been doing it only a little bit because I have only had one purple drop in a week. What am I doing wrong? Am I hunting in the wrong area? What can I hunt with my N/Mo (its my only character that is level 20) that will drop stuff that I can sell well? Can someone explain to me how farming works? I got most my money from doing the beginning of Factions and I am getting tired of doing it lol.

ettin farming is numero uno way to make the cash, or go green farming in SF but that ones a bit tougher. take the east exit from bettletun and fight some mergoyles and tengu, then theres bout 8 mobs of ettins that drop purps and golds. i got bout 3 sup runes today, none of them worth anything but talon got 2 sup vigors in 2 days so, there u go lol. one u finish that area take the east portal to north kryta and theres bout 4-6 mobs of ettins there, take them out then return to nebo terrace and take out the 8mobs of ettins and tele back to the town. and thats it. you should earn money that way. theres also lightning drake farming in gates of kryta mission i use to do but i cant get drakes to drop anything good so the ettin farmin is pretty good right now. talon will post more details prolly
 
well, how do you know what monster will drop, if they'll be good or not..?
 
well, thats experiance pretty much, like i said, drakes use to drop decent stuff now they dont and ettins are the best money makers next to greens. green drops in SF are just when u kill a boss and IF they drop you hope that it might drop for you personally. umm guildwiki.org has a database of what drops and where i believe
 
There are also good greens in Cantha, The ones that I farm with my W/Mo is stonereaper (5-20k), Arrahhsh's Aegis (15-20k), Ghial's staff(35-50k), there are more but havent learn/tried out the builds yet. I have never farmed with a Necro, only my warrior and my monk but once i get my necro farther i will try to pick up some builds.

Like Atown said one of the best ways of earning cash fast is ettin farming, because drops are good, and quick way of earning money. With greens its harder because the green item might drop and might not drop.

I personally start out from beetletun, heading east towards NKP zone, kill the few mergoyles and tengu there, kill the ettins, go to NKP, head east towards the Scoundrel's Rise, soon as I kill the last 2 almost to the portal, i double back to nebo, head west kill ettins to the point of where the tengu are and then double back, bouncing between the zones till my inventory is full. Takes about half an hour to fully fill your backpack, belt pouch and single bag (my last bag is full of sup ident kit, sup salv, and weapons). To make things even go faster, i hit F9 and bring up my entire Invetory list and its way faster to viewing Invetory and identing items during the run.

Somehow doing this bouncing between 2 zones I get better drops and have never triggered the anti farming code, soon as i finish my run, i hit "g" and go directly to guild hall, sell, then hit "g" again and start over.

Just ask, I can show you ettin farming, then you can repeat depending on your char and build.
 
and do not be discouraged with what character you have, i am sure any primary prof has a solo build you can use. ive created 2 ele farming builds, 1 for drakes and 1 for these ettins. my ele can stance tank, main healer, and run lol. monks can SS, so can necros, warriors stance, and rangers use pets. the only one with issues is assassins >.>

So I just run around killing ettins and mergolyes in these zones? That is it? It sounds so simple but I know it is harder because 'goyles are like mesmers. Do you have to have "the armor" or will anything do? I know with my 55 necro armor isnt an issue as long as protective spirit is up, but I was wondering about other classes as well ( I have an up and coming monk and war/mo). I don't have the cash to buy the 15k armor yet- I only did the scar patterns by buying them in LA and getting other stuff at similarly cheap rates... I guess I am just worried that I would have to have "THE ARMOR" in order to farm, but I need the cash to get the armor- it seems like a cycle... Thanks for all the info btw- I will try out that section to farm and see if I can handle it.

u dont kill mergoyles, their just kinda in ur way to get to the etins lol. the armour doesnt matter much, i did it with my 15k armour but i have 2 sups and no vigor so i bought droks and runes are cheap, so now i have 1 sup with major vigor and brohns staff, so for an ele i have over 500+ hp so it works out for me. just make sure ur armour helps ur build any way possible, i would also suggest desert or droks armour as a minimum

Looks like some clarification is in order here! From listening to them talk, you would think that 15k armor is better; it's not. It LOOKS cooler, and it's more expensive, but the stats are exactly the same as the corresponding max value (read: highest armor value) armor for the class.

So just get the highest value armor you can; I would wait to get 15k until you are quite set with cash. But be sure to put a vigor rune on the armor (though NEVER put a Superior Vigor on armor unless you're really, really sure you're going to keep it!)

And Atown: you left off mesmers! Maid Mirawyn would be most offended!

Mesmers would pwn a ettin, the problem is getting there, probably go Illusion of Weakness, Conjure Phan, the illusion running skill, and the inspiration heal. Evasion probably, but energy might be a problem..
 
Once i get an availble slot i am going to make a mesmer, I have been thinking about using my PvP slot because I hardly ever use it anymore....
But that means i would have to buy new armor for my ranger so it can still be able to do ViM trappers.
 
I think it's Vibro that has a mes/warrior ettin farming build, or something like that. It hasn't been posted, so I haven't tried it, but it could be interesting...it would also give me immense satisfaction to be able to communicate my displeasure to the ettins for all those times they KILLED ME!
