Just curious??? Sounds more like serious! Anyway, take her looking, just to get an idea of what she wants, then go by yourself later and buy one. We are glad we looked at rings first, because Lumynara thought she wanted white gold, but after trying on rings changed her mind.

Where's the plain gold band option?

Btw, Blu, if your going world tradition. It's supposed to be 2 months worth of salary for the cost of a ring. Trust me, i'm blessed my lovely wife is also very practical and loves the rings I got her. Symbolism and thought really does count.

i know allllll about tradition... color, quality, cut...

I am a full time student.. soo... IF... i was to get a ring... I have no salary to speak of :P

when you care enough to send the best ..... find a nice ring at a pawn shop

It's not everyone's method, but we both went and looked at rings before getting engaged. I found out what style she liked the best, and then I bought it at a later time without her knowing.

So says the jewelry industry that's trying to sell you a ridiculously expensive rock... Diamonds aren't even rare, just way controlled by the producers to keep the price up.

I'd echo the recommendations to go with her and get a feel for her tastes before making the investment.

Get something you can afford with the cash in your pocket so to speak. Do you really want to start of your married life, or your life together while engaged, in debt, in todays economy?

If you want to get her a big rock, thats what 10 year, 25 year, 35 year 40, 45 and 50th anniversaries are for. Sheesh, these younguns barely able to make end meet trying to get themselves further behind the eightball before the gates are even opened.

Aves, great post and a great point. I will NOT go into debt for a ring, when the time is right to buy one that is...

I also know that at my age, buy a girl a diamond that is super expensive and very nearly flawless, is kind of silly... A ring doesnt say "I love you". My actions and the way I treat her does... it is just a symbol and... a small one in the big picture...

it is a...... "circle of trust" hehehe

make sure you check out bluenile when you buy...i went to several diamond brokers / wholesalers and they , at the time, conceded they couldn't match their prices. as far as finding out what she wants...just go shopping some time and meander by a jewelry store. you know, it's pretty tough to get a woman to go into places full of sparkling and shiny things and have her voice her opinion to you ;) just make it casual and non-obvious...and wait a while after doing so...be mysterical

I proposed without a ring and let her pick out which one she wanted:P it was a good thing because the one she had been hinting that she wanted she ended up not liking on her finger and we found a much nicer ring for the same price

I preferred picking out my own ring when I got engaged, besides guys get snookered by ring salesmen.

Later, I took the ring and re-designed it to add in some new diamonds, ewwwww shiny.

:D

hehe, bluenile is awesome!!!

and yeah este, we have been together for awhile now... known her a couple years...

i am just trying to plan ahead a few months if things continue on this pace! I am in school now full time and on a tight budget :)

I thought that the 3 stone ring was more of an anniversary ring, then an engagement ring. I would also shop around when you find the one you want, lots of places out there to get it from.

Dude... be smooth. Get her friends or her mom to go shopping with her and have them "by accident" stop by a jewlery store at the mall! And then have them tell you what she likes after the fact. Get em booooooooooooooooy!

If you don't know her size, just lift a ring of hers and bring it to the jewelry store. Try and get one that she wears on the ring finger of her other hand. Take that and go up half a size if that hand is not her dominant one. The dominant hand will generally be larger.
