My favorite band of all time is mWY. One of my favorite songs by them is "Tourches Together". Click for lyrics.

Why burn poor and lonely?
Under a bowl, or under a lampshade,
or on the shelf beside the bed
where at night you lay turning like a door on its hinges
(first on your left side, then on your right side, then your left side again).

The first verse is referencing Matthew 5:14-16:

"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."

Tell all the stones
We're gonna make a building
They'll be cut into shape
And set into place
Or if you'd rather be a window
I'll gladly be the frame
Reflecting any kind words
We'll let in all the blame
And ruin our reputation all the same

This is talking about how we as Christians worry about how non-Christians view us.

So never mind our plan making
We'll start living
Anyway
Aren't you unbearably sad?
Then why burn so poor and lonely?

I love this quote. Why burn poor and lonely, going according to your own plan? Lets burn bright for God. Lets live according to his plan.

Why pluck one string?
What good is just one note?
Oh one string sounds fine I guess
But we were once one note
We weren’t lonely wheat
Quietly ground into grain
One light and momentary pain
So why the safe distance?
This curious look
Why tear out single pages,
When you can throw away the book?
Why pluck one string when you can
Strum the guitar?

In life, why just do what is ok? Do what is best. Or it could also be interpreted as a call to the Church, to put aside denominational differences and unite as One.

And I’m afraid
And everyone’s afraid
And everyone knows it
But we don’t have to be afraid
Anymore

I take this as being afraid to be/act like a Christian to others. Burning as a light under a bowl.

You played the flute
But no one was dancing
You sang a sad song
But none of us cried

In reference to Luke 7:32:

"They are like children sitting in the market place and calling to one another, 'We piped to you, and you did not dance; we wailed, and you did not weep."

Jesus was comparing the people of this generation to the children in the market place. He (being the child in the market place that Jesus was quoting) played the flute, but it was to joyful. So he sang a sad song, but it was to sad. Nothing can please them.

MWY is pretty good, I should get one of their CDs sometime. Their vocalist (for lack of a better word) is pretty crazy, it's a very unique style of... umm... yelling?

He has a unique vocal style, I like it though. Most of the lyrics are written as poetry, so I guess that motivates his vocal style.

You should get 'Catch for us the Foxes', it's better then their first album.
