My future build

Very nice. Except for the OS.
If you simply must go with a Windows system. Stick with XP. Otherwise you could easily save yourself $220 by going with the good stuff. :D

reactOS is free >.> , so is ubuntu, fedora, etc

I want to stay with what i know.
i have been playing around on my siblings PC's with Vista so i atleat kinda know what it is.
i have XP and know it well.
I know Vista runs all of my games.
my brother will know how to take care of it if something goes wrong.

i know nothing about Ubuntu nor do i know if it runs my games.

Sounds like a candidate for a Dual Boot system. Go with XP, and get something like Ubuntu and play with it. There are a few programs like Wine or Cedega that will allow you to play your Windows games on Linux.

thoughts on vista...

Here is a MS professional thoughts on using vista on a gaming rig...

USELESS WASTE OF PRECIOUS RESOURCES!

the system itself needs 1 gig of ram, if you want to play games you better start adding more...

15GB of HD??? to install the OS? my xp pro system at work has all of my software installed, my "work" mp3's and 3 gigs local data files and I am only using 14 gigs!!!

128MB shared memory video card required? more waste for fluffy visual effects on the OS GUI. (you have not started watching movies yet let alone gaming)

Not to mention the sheer fact that nothing MS does is stable and usable until after SP1 is released. The theory at MS is that the best way to test a public release candidate software is to release it and fix it later. EVERYONE USING AN MS OS IS A BETA TESTER!!! You certainly won't catch me installing Vista on any system that serves any important function.

I know its a resource hog, but i truly think 1 8800GT (2 later) and a quad core and 2 (4 later) will run it just fine.

and say it doesn't or say i can't get a killer rig, i looked at XP pro SP2 and it's just as pricey as Vista!
