I am gearing up Demetrius to be a pally healer, a healadin.
I think the balance sets of lightforge and the lawbringer/judgment epic sets are very good balanced sets. However, when healing you only really need intellect/spirit along with stamina. There are better plate and non-plate pieces out there that would make one a better healer.
There are basically 4 types of pure healing builds as I see it:
1. High Intellect and spirit, for a large mana pool and some regen
2. High spell crit % (since pallys can get mana back for a crit heal)
3. High +heals
4. High mana regen
The question is which will make you the best healer? You can go for short burst healing or longer healing for longer fights.
My opinion is that one advantage pallys have over priests and druids is the free crit heal. With 1.9 we will have a talent to give our mana back after a crit heal and also a talent for +5 spell crit.
What if a pally could get his spell crit up to 20%? That would mean one in five heals is free and crit, essentially adding 20% to your mana pool and making your heal for 10% more over time.
Thoughts?
