MAR 4:35*And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.

MAR 4:36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.

MAR 4:37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.

MAR 4:38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?

MAR 4:39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

MAR 4:40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?

MAR 4:41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

I read this story and thought, didn't Jesus say they WERE going to pass to the other side? If so these men who have seen Him perform miracles got scared during a storm, even after He said they were going to the other side? Just wanted to know your guy's thoughts on this.

I would have to say that I do not think they were fully assured of the Lord Jesus Christ was the son of God. I am not sure what they thought. But If the storm was as bad as some I seen, They were right to be scared. But they need to believe because they were with the Lord Jesus Christ himself, they were fine. Christ was asleep because he knew he would make it across to the other side, no matter how the wind bellowed. The disciples, I believe could have either rebuked the wind, or continued to play a game of spades until the reached the other side.

But the waves were crashing, the wind was howling, the ship was lisping, and looking like the next wave would capsize it. And even though the Son of the Living God was asleep on the same ship, the fear of death and the immediate threat was feeding their fear. This was more powerful than their faith in their master.

That is why The Lord Jesus Christ chaste them for having no faith (something he comments on thru out the gospel. Lack of faith)

I see that the bible makes it clear that the 12 need more faith in the Lord God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Simply put they woke him up for nothing, he was like look dude, we were gonna make it to the other side , whether the boats rocking or not. We’ll make it because I said so. How’s a little thing like the wind gonna bother my disciples??

I think we as Christians can take this with us in today’s life. God tells us, I got the plan, I know the outcome, why are you stressed, I got it under control, just do what I designed you to do, don't worry about this or that, just mind my business and I'll do the rest!

Its life, there will be trails, I designed it that way. I the Lord Jesus Christ, gots your back!

Yes, Jesus did say they are going to the other side. Just like us today we do not have the faith that we should have. We need to remember that God takes care of us, our needs and have faith in him.

I shared a story of me in another forum about when Ura left and I was missing him. I made myself sick instead of turning to God. Once I started to spend more time with God I started to get better very quickly. I had to turn around and choose to follow Jesus and trust him to take care of me.
Another time: When my hubby went to the golf war in 1990 -91, I had 2 babies and one on the way. I had to leave Germany because of medical reasons (Baby). I came to the US by my self for the first time. One of my sisters asked me before I left Germany “what are you going to do when Rob/Ura dies over there and then you stuck in the States”.( I am originally from Germany) You know at that moment when she asked me that question, I knew that GOD was going to bring him home to me. I had no doubt that he was coming back home, which I told my sister. She could not believe of the FAITH that I had that moment.
To bad we don’t have that kind of trust and faith in our Savior.
The disciples did not have that kind of faith/trust in Christ.

Ok, first Jesus said "Let us pass over to the other side."

Seeing Him in human form the disciples could not, as Montrez pointed out, fully understand His deity. Thus a comment like "let us go over to the other side" would be like you or me saying "let us go to the store."

However, with you and me there are miscalculations. We could change our minds, we could end up in a car accident, we could get caught in any unexpected event that alters our plans. Thus Peter commands us to say "Lord willing we will do such in such."

Jesus however, being God, did not have to say "Lord willing" because He was Lord. The disciples had not yet fully comprehended this, so when the storm came they were frightened and woke Jesus.

Now I do not think that the disciples were thinking they would die and Jesus couldn't do anything about it. They had seen His miracles and knew His power. Jesus was asleep, and somehow they thought His power was like a magicians: only good when alert. Thus they woke Him up saying "Don't You care? Do something!" They did not realize His power over nature all the time.

Finally Jesus gets up and rebukes them for their lack of faith. Lack of faith in what, His power? I don't think so... More He rebuked them for not having faith in his omniscience and omnipotence. He is in control all the time, He ordains all things and nothing can touch the believers without His consent. He rebuked them because they didn't understand that He is in control waking or sleeping.
