Power Mesmer

Legacy of Elijah [LoE] - Proud Grandfather
I've seen a couple of positive mentions of a Power Mesmer - I'm not familiar with Mesmer traits - what is this Power Mesmer?

Also - there was a mention of Avenger - what is that about?

Any direction will be appreciated.

Avenger refers to a guild Member - his toon name is "X of Avenger" where X represent the name of any particular profession (i.e. "Mesmer of Avenger" or "Engineer of Avenger"). He is an encyclopedia of all things mesmer, particularly WvW.

As for Power Mesmer, it generally refers to a mesmer who uses +power gear (usually Berserker gear) and traits to maximize direct damage rather than relying on condition damage/confusion. I've used the guide from http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/79487-buildmy-dps-mesmer-guide-for-organized-dungeon-groups/ and modified here and there for flexibility with dungeons/WvW.

Thanks for the quick response. I'm hoping to finish my Guardian this week then get on my Mesmer.

I'll look up your link.

I've seen several posts about mesmer and thought that I would post my 10 cents here. There are several key differences in mesmer play that distinguish the builds. The "confusion bomber" build is a staple of WvW and if you're running with the zerg it is the build that will get hits (and therefore loot sacks) like crazy. Another option is the staff condition stacking build which a lot of people use. I have not used condition much so can't really say much about it. The pvp meta at the moment basically runs 2 builds: phantasm/ condition build -or- power shatter build. The shatter build is the one I run. http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fgAQNAsaWlwzKoHVzoGZ9ICqHaH49dkU0asWJF42FC-TsAg0Cno4ywlgLLXOukct+YAx0CA is an example of the shatter spec. Basically the idea is to maximize burst with full berserker stats and using shatters as much as possible. Personally use a 10/30/0/0/30 variant of this build. Berserker gear and sword/pistol - staff is the set-up I use. This build is squishy but clones and staff provide plenty of utility and the damage is nasty.

Confusion may become less of a staple in WvW, as the recent state of the game indicated the devs plan on reducing it's damage by half like it is in PvP.

I ran the condition build when I was still playing my Mesmer, and it was a lot of fun. Probably slower at killing general mobs in PvE than a power build, but great for boss-type foes.

My Mesmer is just a 20 - I'm looking for a good build to carry him to 80 in PvE - any recommendations? Particularly power vs conditions and best weapon sets for the climb.

i liked leveling with scepter torch and staff
the condition damage/confusion didn't get really cool till i got higher level
but it was still fun to play lol

Definitely check out the guide at https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/for...uide-The-Comprehensive-Mesmer-Guide-all-Parts. It links to his youtube guides, and part 2 goes into his build as well as has a great bit on how to cycle in mobs. Mesmer's have a ramp up time, so if you try to fight one mob at a time it can be very frustrating. It's also frustrating to watch all of your illusions go down when your target dies if you haven't spread them around. Mesmer works best out in the world when you switch targets and get illusions on several mobs. As they die, you keep aggroing additional mobs and adding illusions to the new ones.

I used http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fgAQFAGGRMpI4QOUPwus77KpA3uQA while leveling up. It's a little different than the guide listed above, but works in a very similar way. I didn't get the condition duration and power that he does, but Deceptive Evasion helps you get out more clones, and Sharper Images makes them apply bleeding rather than just being distractions. It also give access to Illusionary Persona which gives you a potential 33% increase to all of your shatters, because you shatter along with your illusions. Illusionary Persona is a powerful trait.

I think he mentions in the video that he doesn't really shatter unless he knows it's going to end a fight. The one I ran with allowed for more shattering than that.

EDIT: Oh, and I was constantly playing with different weapons for the swap. Focus is nice for the swiftness as well as the pull. Greatsword takes advantage of Illusionary Elasticity. Sword is good for getting in close to finish a mob or to use for the evasion. As far as utilities, Feedback is awesome for shutting down ranged mobs. Mirror Images gives you even more clone production, and Blink for more mobility.
