Regarding PvP only Characters

Wouldn't it be true that if I only have lower level characters that I will be lacking the skills, etc to make an effective pvp only character?

Initially, yes. However, your PvP character would be level 20 with full attribute points. You can then use Bathazar Faction to unlock any further skills and/or items you want for your PvP character. Once a skill or item is unlocked, you can add it to a skill bar or equip it onto a PvP character.

Your next question would be: "How do I earn faction if I don't have the skills and/or items to build an effective PvP character?" The answer to that is not as easy. The best way is patience and practice. If you can get to the Zaishen Challenge and Zaishen Elite, you can practice there and earn up to 2,000-6,000 faction per day fairly easily until you can unlock enough for a more effective build. Trappers are an effective build to do this. There are usually groups looking for more trappers to do this. Ask in alliance chat too, someone might be available and willing to go.

The last steps are the hardest and there is little others can do to help with the first one. If you don't have Heroes' Ascent unlocked already, you will need to do that by first winning 5 consecutive matches in the Random Arenas (talk to the Canthan Ferry Captain on the Isle of the Nameless to get there). After you have one 5 consecutive random arena wins, you will need 5 total (not necessarily consecutive) wins in the Team arenas. This will unlock Heroes' Ascent. This process should earn you enough faction to get a few more skills and/or items.

Yeah, they took away pre-made builds... so you can't just create a character and jump right into the game. You have to look up a build you want to use, make sure you have the skills, etc. although, they do give you a bunch of skills to start off with I think.

Well, your character loads with a set of skills.

Regarding the pre-made builds... They quickly became useless in PvP, because anyone with any experience knew EXACTLY how to counter them. :D

Derk hit the nail on head when he said that patience is the key. If you spend just a half-hour or so every day 'faction farming' in Zaishen Challenge/Elite and you average 2-3k faction per day as Derk estimated, you'll earn 14-21k faction per week. 21k faction (which will take you 1-2 weeks to earn) is enough to buy an elite skill (3k), a superior rune for your main attribute (3-5k depending on whether you already have the minor and major runes unlocked), minor runes you'll need (1k each), superior vigor (also 3-5k), a good weapon upgrade or two, and some new non-elite skills (1k each). You can also buy non-elite skills with those low level characters to unlock them for your PvE character, and of course you will have access to non-elite skills your PvE characters already have.

PvP characters in our regular PvP events are a bit of a pet-peeve of mine. Were I the PvP coordinator, I don't think I would allow players to regularly bring PvE characters for PvP. Of course, I'm not nearly as nice a guy as Dredd. But PvE characters almost always deviate from the runes, weapons/upgrades, skills, etc. that we might need in any given team configuration, and they can't take advantage of templates to quick-load skills and equipment. And the real biggie is that they have to go cap elite skills. A PvP character with just 3k faction in reserve can instantly buy any elite skill in the game. That's big.

PvE can load skill templates idk about equiptment. They might not have those skills (and neither do PvP sometimes) but they can load them.
