Shopping for a printer!

My fiance is looking for a printer meeting the follow criterion:

1. Mac compatible.

2. Prints color. No fancy pictures, just for word documents.

3. Efficient. She prints a few reams per semester at college. That means she goes through a lot of ink, and at $6,000/gallon, ink is the world's most expensive liquid.

4. Scanner/copier/printer combo.

What would you guys recommend for a penny pincher?

Nevermind ladies and gentlemen. She called HP about her old printer, and they offered her a replacement for free. Three cheers for HP...

5. Doesn't have blasted ink "chips" that report ink lower then it really is and forces you to replace the cartridge before you can print _anything_

I have a cannon mp500 and it is a PITA at times. If the ink cartridges are even a few mm off then it will lock up and refuse to do anything until you replace it or somehow manage to coarse it to work. Needless to say this has happened at the most inopportune times, like the day before a paper is due.

of course hp sent a free replacement..that ink is expensive(it's also sold at over 200% profit)

Go with a colcor laser mfp. You can find one at sam's club for under 300 dollars and instaed of 40 cents a page you'll pay closer to 10 sents per color page.
