Sound card or mic problem?

Hey All,
I had a quick question to ask. I want to join the teamspeak server but I have a slight hardware problem and I was wondering if anyone could help me out? Last time I used TS or Ventrillo I had just a mic plugged into my soundcard and I got so much feedback that it hurt everyone's ears and I had to turn off my mic. I was just unsure if it was my soundcard or my mic that was causing the problem. Any thoughts on this? Thanks.

Did you have your mic Set to push to talk also you need to maybe move your speakers around?

Yea, make sure you have push-to-talk set to a key you can easily access, instead of having it on voice activation. And I'd suggest getting a pair of headphones so there's NO looping. If that's not an option, you'll just have to find a place where your mic doesn't pick up sound from your speakers too much.

Make sure you have your mic plugged into the right port on your sound card. It should be red. Also, if you aren't using headphones, push to talk is a must. Using speakers will create an echo effect for anyone else in your TS channel because they'll hear themselves through your speaker into your mic.

What kind of sound card do you have? Updated drivers may help as well.

I've heard that a computer's Volume Control settings (double click on the speaker icon next to the clock) can affect this with some sound cards. If I remember right, you should mute the "Line In" channel or any others based on inputs.
