What did God's people expect prior to the Incarnation? A mighty Messiah, a military leader, a powerful king. Who would have expected the spiritual salvation of the world to come through a baby boy born in a manger in a seemingly insignificant town?
We take God's Word as revealed in Scripture as absolute truth, not because of any value of pragmatism ("What can the Bible do for me?") or pleasantness ("Does it make me feel good?"), but rather because the Holy Spirit bears witness of its truth.
I have difficulty letting go of the perceived need to understand the inner workings of the course of my life. It's much harder to trust in God, even though He has been faithful to see me through so many difficult times.
Rest assured that God is sovereign and He will see His plan through. He probably won't do it quite how we expect Him to--either in the little things or the big things--but trust that He knows best.
