...but then again, that was a year ago and maybe people change their Desktop/wallpaper...again...
Mines still the same, with an expectation of Protoss, Zerg and Terran desktop sounds; example: With Terran Desktop Theme, when I erase something in my Recycle Bin, a Terran Ghost shoots and kills zerglings and hydras. With Protoss Theme, an archon says, "Destroy" and Zerg Theme, a Ultralisk Roars.
If you notice, Zerg Desktop is very dark, Protoss Desktop is bright, and Terran Desktop is between dark and light.

My icons go: terminal, firefox, mplayer, xine, xmms, neverwinter nights, openoffice, gimp, nvu, gaim.
I dont have desktop icons per se, I just disabled them, or rather never enabled them.
