Things could always be worse...

Reading Will Durant's The Age of Faith: The Story of Civilization, Vol IV and came across the statement:

"In the ninth century, the Moslem governor of Antioch appointed a special guard to keep Christian sects from massacring one another at church."

Not sure whether I should feel grateful our modern problems aren't quite so bad in comparison, or worried that we could one day backslide again that far.

I suppose both are sentiments worth some reflection, but probably the more important point is to never forget the importance of "abiding in the vine," because crazy things can happen when people try to do Christianity without Christ.
