1 Chronicles 10:4-7
Then said Saul to his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. So Saul took a sword, and fell upon it. And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise on the sword, and died.

So Saul died, and his three sons, and all his house died together. And when all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, then they forsook their cities, and fled: and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

What went wrong with all these people for all this to happen? They got themselves into trouble because they didn't fear God when they should, but now they're going to fear the Philistines? It didn't occur to anyone to try praying and getting right with God or asking Him for help before saying, "Ack, Philistines! Run!"? It's not like God loved the Philistines more than the Israelites that He wouldn't have changed sides in an instant if His people had given Him the chance, but they chose to run away from their God-given place in the promised land instead, leaving them open for the Philistines to come dwell and foritfy themselves in as if that were going to make anything better. Once you abandon your position and start running, it becomes difficult to find a place you can stop running to go back to standing your ground like you should.

A terrible point in Israeli history. A good reminder to follow the Lord.

Welcome back to Tuesdays.
