What do you do in "the mean time?"

Hey All,
I was just curious what some people do when waiting on God? I have come to a point in my life where I am waiting it seems like, for everything to happen. Nothing is happening right now, but on the horizon there are lots of things in store for me... So I am wondering how I can serve in "small" (I don't believe there is any form of serving that is truelly small) ways until the events in the horizon come to pass? It is driving me nuts just waiting for things to happen- I want to saddle up the horse and go! Also, where would I go to find out what my fit is in the church for now? I have taken so many spiritual surveys that they all run together but none of them seem to say "GO HERE!" Our church has a new pastor starting soon who will be there part time, and part of his job will be to help members to see where they fit... I guess it is just more waiting? See ya.

yeah waiting is tuff, just gotta remember that this may be exactly where God wants you

Well, like Atown said, God maybe has you just were he wants you. But for something to do, you said your church has a new pastor. Maybe you could help him out, or do something to make the transision smoother. Anyhow good luck, stay strong, and god bless!

I heard it said once that life is what happens while you're waiting around for life to happen. The truth of this is so frequently illustrated when people finally achieve the 'success' they've been hoping for - money, children, a new church, whatever it might be - and then find themselves looking back to the times before and remembering how much happier and more satisfied they were when they were struggling, poor, unsuccessful and wandering around in the wilderness. That isn't to say that a new season of life and the aquisition of what we want and need is inevitably going to lead us away from edification, but every season has both its advantages and disadvantages. Your next season of life will have not only the advantages you want in terms of spiritual growth and progress, but also disadvantages you don't have now. So I pray God will help you appreciate and enjoy what the transitional season you're in has to offer, and its own unique potential to teach you patience, perseverance and endurance in your spiritual journey.

 That is so true... I am looking back now on when I was in Florida, and my wife and I were on hard times. That seems like such a better time than right now, yet when I was going through it, it seemed like the worst thing ever.
It is also funny in a way, but I just found a book that I read a long time ago called "In The Mean Time"...is that not just crazy or what?

I would have LOVED to have answered this topic fresh, but I'll settle for five days stale. :)

Waiting is the single most infuriating and exhilirating thing about my Christian walk. I am, by nature, a man of action. Each officer meeting I have held has ended with everyone very clear about the "action plan" that each of us will take. So, when I am forced to wait "unneccessarily" for anything or anyone, even God, I am easily frustrated.

However, in the waiting periods is when God teaches us about ourselves. I went through a stretch from March to August of this year where for about 5 months I did not make a penny. I'm probably going to take a major loss on an investment property that I was planning on being our income for a while. And, all this time, my prayers led me in the direction I'm now in.

I can't say exactly how, but without an income for five months, God provided for us in such a way that we were never late with a bill, money always came in just the nick of time, and my faith is about 500% stronger.

Building your faith is in the waiting. The understanding comes after the waiting. Folks, as Christians, we choose waiting as our religion. Our brothers and sisters have been waiting for Jesus' return for almost 2,000 years. If we assume that April 14, 26 AD was the date of Palm Sunday (which my read through the Bible in a year program does), then Christians have been waiting for over 722,000 days for the day of His return. What do YOU do while you're waiting for that amazing day?

Luke 21:36 says:
Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man."
