I think it is evil, perverted, and disgusting.

I quit liking it yesterday. Im fed up with the Japanese. They get away with things Americans would be shocked at. This anime I saw called Hellsing (WARNING VERY BLOODY, BUT WORTH IT), which really I could call a kinda Christian anime, was about killing vampires. The Catholic church and the Protestant chruch were fighting about ways of doing things, but in the end it has a moral. It doesnt matter if you have different ways of doiung things, its that you believe in God and you keep away the evils of th world (in this case vampires, which are kinda like demons) I also saw this other very very good anime called King of Bandit Jing, which I highly reccommend) But other than that, anime is evil and should be banned. I cannot belive children watch that nasty, perverted stuff in Japan, and now they dare to import it, where children can buy it!? Thats what I call evil!

Its not evil, it has great stories. The girls don't like to wear alot of clothing but their culture is fine with that. We come from a different culture and we look at things alot differently. I think people who don't like watching them just don't watch them. Like I think in the Jap version of Sailor moon all the girls are gay. But they had to change it for western television.

Being as manga and anime was initially created to get around japans strict pornography laws it doesnt really make for great viewing.. However there are some great series and films out there. As long as you stick to the kid-rated films there is not much to worry about.. However i dont recommend watching any adult titles..

Don't be so wreckless in throwing the word 'evil' around..  You're playing with weapons of mass destruction; have to be verrry careful.

Oh yea, it's evil. In fact all of it is evil!!! Let's just slap the evil label on anything and everything! Wait...except the stuff we like...those are ok.

bandit king jing is so freaking awesome, i made an anime music video of the 1st 4 episodes and Hellsing ive been wanting to check out, now i have heard that breif review i shall either borrow from the library or sit in the barnes and noble for a few hours

. do u like inuyasha stuff or not? and what bout chobits?

Hellsing? I liked that no end but the ending was awful. Exactly why are anime 'evil?' I see you like it because it involved the eradication of evil by two differing sides of Christianity.

The Iscariat Organisation is portrayed (to me at least) as a fanatical group and the Hellsing family (Besides Walter cos he rocks) is not much better besides it being the 'better' side. No offense, but attacking the general idea of anime, but appreciating this because of its religious theme seems a little hypocritical. I saw no moral besides showing irrational rivalry between tow of the many sects of Christianity. Perhaps it was making a point, I don't know.

Try watching Evangelion. If you think anime is evil, that will have you calling for holy war!

I apologise if I sound heated.

In addition,

Yes, some anime cartoons are quite grotesque. Certainly, anime cartoons have had the largest number of explicit and violent scenes I have ever seen in every movie, cartoon and whatever anywhere else.

However, Japan has one of the lowest crime rates in the world, and some of the most best-behaved children. They are taught respect, family values and such like from an early age.

They are not the paradigm race, but the fact they can produce such contreversial material and remain relatively ordered says something. The US has a very high crime rate, and that, I believe, has nothing to do with anime.

Their is a lot of obscene Anime out their but a lot of it is acctually really good. I enjoy Anime when it comes on tv most of the time and really enjoy a few shows, Trigun and Cowboy Bebop in paticular.
Like all things it's a matter of oppinion if it is too violent or obscene, and you have to make that choice for yourself.

I agree with Slayer. It being a cartoon and not a movie only means you can do more with it, but sadly MOST anime is obscene and over the top.

Some anime is quite obscene. Look at Akira. If parts of that are not obscene, I don't know what is.

The thing is sometimes Western culture is scared silly of things entailing to much violence or sexuality. Ghost In The Shell was bizarre, included frequent scenes where the heroine was stark naked, but it adressed these scenes in a casual fashion, not trying to be erotic or anything.

Many anime cartoons use humor, cutesy charecters or science fiction to get their ideas across. Some cartoons are flawed by containing superfluous violence or sexual scenes (Have you seen Blue Gender or Perfect Blue?), but in many cases they carry a storyline. Look at western films like Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Freddy Versus Jason. Their sole, single purpose was to cram as much gore, violence and swearing into a single film, and they pulled it off so successfully they became big hits. They contained minimal plot and storyline.

Also, look at the new James Bond Films. And Terminator Three. The original James Bond films were classy and stylish, the orginal Terminator (Especially the second one, Judement Day) contained storylines and plots, developed characters and such like. Now they focus entirely on showing off drop-dead gorgeous supermodel spies (or murderous rampaging machine) and heavily exaggerated chase scenes. (Notice the Bond films always contain the super-expensive, super streamlined models?)

Anime can be obscene, but they ussually have a purpose behind it. Perfect Blue has a (acted) rape scene and a few VERY bloody murders, but it has a storyline to underpin them.

Actually there has always been drop dead gorgeous bond girls, the earlier Bond films women were more submissive. New bond films are all about how many companies they can advertize for.

The Jap culture is very different from ours, they have games where your objective is to follow a girl with out being noticed and then rape her. And u get points for not being noticed. To me the game is weird. But I know jap girls that love playing the game with their boyfriends. They think its hot. Weird I know.

U know if u put it that way everything is evil.

Ur evil cuz u called something evil! See it goes by and by.

Understand people's culture. Having lived most of my childhood life in Korea, I know this because there are huge difference in cultures. Specially between US and Asian. I'm glad Korea doesn't get any of those Japanese (what u called evil) animes in away, but have a point in view in there side. It's their culture, their ways. Supposing I walked up to you and said stuffs about your culture, the american culture, would you like it? No you wouldn't. In fact you might stand up and fight. I don't think you should start this racial threads. It just seems Un- Christian.

My couple cents,
FlashoN

ps: and for those of you didn't know, yes i am Korean.

I question your rationale behind saying this. I am aware that there is lots of anime with explicit material (none of which I have any desire to associate myself with), but there's an equal amount that isn't inapropriate. A valid comparison would be clasical music. Compare "Carmina Burana" to "Gloria en Excelcius Deo".

I'm interested, I know that Gloria in Excelcius Deo is a hymn, but what is Carmina Burana?

There is no excuse to watch rape or sex. NO excuse at all and if ytou think a good storyling behind it is good enough, I say. "Tell it to the judge".
