Okay the voting has begun :) I am going to be saving for one or the other...my wii just isn't cutting it. I need something with some good solid games to it.

Due to the better online experience and overall cheaper cost...I choose 360...not only that, but I know a LOT more people that have 360s over those that have PS3s... Not that the PS3 is bad system...just...I only know 1 person that has one, against the 15+ I know that have a 360... I chose the 360 over the PS3 a few months ago, and am VERY satisfied...not only that but getting to play with my friends is a blast...

I owned a 360 for years. I finally bought a Ps3 and i love it much more. Plus, BluRay is amazing.

Since I don't have an HD TV, BluRay was not a selling point...and only knowing one other with a PS3 it would get pretty boring not playing with "RL" people IMO...Also, the Elite 360 is now only $250, plus it usually comes with 2 games...like Forza 3 and Halo 3...all for $250... Also, for some reason the used games for 360 are $10-$15 cheaper than the PS3 games...not sure why that is...but I noticed it when I was comparing the two at gamestop... Just some things to think about... Wow...I cannot believe I am actually trying to get someone to buy a 360...never thought the day would come...

Well, here is the deal...I am working at Target now...and I get a 15% discount on all items whether they are on sale or not...and second my b-day is next Saturday so I am looking to save up some from that and after saving a bit more hopefully have enough for one or the other. :)

...and my second b-day is next Saturday

This is how I read it twice...LOL...then after the third time I read it right :P

Another 360 Selling Point: PSN is pretty lacking and the trophy system is pathetic IMO... I luvz me some LIVE achievements... :D

I bet no one can guess how I voted... Fanwar begin!

Overall cheaper cost? That's completely false, and I can't believe people still say this. :(

Sure, if you ignore the cost of the privilege of playing your game online, and pretend that getting a blu-ray player isn't worth the cost "difference". I do think that the 360 has a slightly better online ecosystem, but the people (in general) are not. Makes me not want to play online at all on Live.

Elite + Live = $300. Actually, no, that's not true...because if you want to play your system next year, that'll be another $50. And then another, and another. Oh, and if someone else in your house wants to play, they need their own account too. So even if you go with a "cheap" elite, you're paying more than a PS3.

It also comes with a small hard drive and no wifi. So note for Andy:, If you DO end up deciding to buy an xbox, don't get tricked into buying a $250 "Elite", the new model is a much better deal @ $300. It'll save you the cost of the $70 wifi adapter you'll likely need and has a bigger hard drive.

As for the games, yes some games are cheaper on 360, but some are cheaper on PS3.

Another 360 Selling Point: PSN is pretty lacking and the trophy system is pathetic IMO... I luvz me some LIVE achievements... :D

I have absolutely no idea what you are referring to here. Virtually every cross-platform game has the EXACT same achievements/trophies. I personally prefer the trophies simply because I like the bronze/silver/gold/plat layout rather than just a "gamerscore" that really doesn't mean anything. PS3 has a "level" based on how many trophies you have, but I really don't care about that either lol. The only thing I can possibly think of is that some launch games just didn't have trophies...but any game that has released in the past few years (along with many patched that released prior) do have trophies.

Could you please provide actual information on what exactly is "pathetic" about the trophy system?

Yes, I know I am biased due to obvious preference, but the fact of the matter is...
* PS3 IS cheaper. By far. Especially over time.
* Trophy system is virtually exactly like Achievements. I mean, Sony DID copy it, lol.

To add...despite most people's obvious preference, the consoles are mostly the same. They both have high-def graphics, comparable online service, comperable hard drives (now with the Slim, anyway), etc. Honestly, multi-platform games look pretty much identical on both systems. Some people prefer the PS3 controller, some people prefer the 360 controller. Of course PS3 has blu-ray, but that may or may not have any meaning to you.

Here's what actually matters, the games:

360 Exclusives:
* Gears of War Series
* Halo Series
* Fable Series
* Forza Series
* (help me out 360 players, not trying to short this list...)

PS3 Exclusives
* 3D Dot Game Heroes
* Demon's Souls
* Gran Turismo 5 (ok this game will finally be here in November, but I think its safe to expect great things)
* Killzone Series
* The Last Guardian (no release on this at all, but again, every right to be excited)
* LittleBigPlanet (with sequel to come)
* MAG
* Modnation Racers
* Ratchet & Clank Series
* Resistance Series
* Uncharted Series
* Valkyria Chronicles
* White Knight Chronicles Series
* Wipeout Series

The major differentiator is...most 360 "exclusives" end up coming to PS3 6-12 months later with more content (like free included DLC). Pretty much only Microsoft-developed/published games stay 360-only. And of those, many can be played on the PC. Also, there are so many great FPS series out on both platforms...it really doesn't justify owning a 360 just for Halo, which isn't that fun (co-op aside) anyway. These are just the exclusives, though...pretty much every other game worth playing is on both consoles. The majority of big 3rd-party games are cross-platform.

If you are interested in PS Move or Kinect, that could be a factor...although from what I've seen I'm more looking forward to Move since it actually plays "real" games. We'll see when they come out, though. Hard to have an opinion before playing them.

Anyway, looks like PS3 is ahead in the poll currently, but I would honestly ignore the poll, look at what you feel is best for you and your family, and go with that.

Xbox is pwnage. Though I really want little big planet, mod nation racers, mag......

better online and cheaper cost?

the PSN is the most stable of the three networks and is all free online play.....

I am a social gamer and that was why I bought a 360. I didn't even start seeing people with PS3s on campus until my last year there, but it seemed everyone had a 360. Say what you will about the Halo series, that game was a fantastic party game when you've got three or four boxes in the same/adjacent rooms.

PSN is going P2P soon with plus as mentioned at E3...

I don't need the wifi and got official wireless controllers for $29/piece with the charge and play kit (did not see a deal like that ANYWHERE for the PS3 controllers)...

Xbox LIVE is $4/month...!!! so much... more people spend more than that just to play one game online...

Every game I have bought for my 360 was $10-$20 cheaper than it was for the PS3 except MW2...

I have the 360 elite, 8 games, 3 controllers, Xbox LIVE, and everything I need for it all for around $430...when I priced out the same thing for the PS3 I was looking over $600...

This is why I went 360...I took DAYS pricing it out...and saved $170 at LEAST going 360...

Plus, on a more opinionated note like most of my previous posts, I do not like many of the exclusives on the PS3 besides MGS4...

EDIT: Now, yes, stock without sales and without used games, the PS3 can and probably is cheaper, however, with used games and the fact 360 stuff seems to be on sale much more often than the PS3 stuff...and without the need of wifi, the 360 kills in price...

Also, I put all of my games on my HDD for faster loading and what not and with 8+ games on it I am no where near filling up my "small" 160GB HDD... Oh, and I have movies and music on there too... :D

Errrrr...the PSN has had more downtime than Xbox LIVE... The weekend I got my 360 the PSN was down all weekend and everyone was throwing a fit at Sony... XD

EDIT: Still though, IMO, when all is said and done, PC Gaming makes the 360 and PS3 look like crap :P

agreed on the pc gaming, but the psn has only been down for a day with a bad patch in over a year that ive had it....

and you gotta watch slickdeals.net they have PS3 controller sales all the time

i have yet to pay more than 30$ for a game and i own about 12 PS3 games

those exclusives you dont like usually get more awards :)

and you can load your ps3 games to hard drive and play music and videos and stream from your pc just as well.....

didt hear about the E3 thing though, wondering the full context

Of the two I say PS3, but from what I've seen of both systems they aren't worth it compared to a PC.

Which is why I haven't thought of getting one until now. :) And I may not actually...still pondering, but wanted to see the overall opinion.

If my PC wasn't top of the line insane awesomeness, I would not have bought a console...but there wasn't much more I could to my PC...

Alan Wake, Lost Odyssey (better than the FFs since it's by the FF creator)... and yeah, only real games I can see getting a 360 for.

Incorrect as that service is "Playstation Plus". This is an optional program which not only lets you get into betas and demos early, but also gives you discounts towards PSN titles and even lets you have games to try out like Steam's free weekends. You have to pay to play online with friends on the 360, Wii and PS3 doesn't.

Xbox LIVE is $4/month...!!! so much... more people spend more than that just to play one game online...

That money could be going towards a new game or many downloadable games.

Every game I have bought for my 360 was $10-$20 cheaper than it was for the PS3 except MW2...

This is moot, both consoles release at $60. I can find Dead Space cheaper for my PS3 than I can for my 360, or even Marvel Ultimate Alliance. Wii has both beat. Depends all on the amount the store has and how old the game is. I've found great deals for all three consoles.

I have the 360 elite, 8 games, 3 controllers, Xbox LIVE, and everything I need for it all for around $430...when I priced out the same thing for the PS3 I was looking over $600...

You could do the same with PS3, just need to find good deals online. All the hardware is roughly the same price, as for the 8 games, they don't sound like brand-spankin' new releases. All about finding the right place with the right price.

This is why I went 360...I took DAYS pricing it out...and saved $170 at LEAST going 360...

I've gotten less games for my 360 but have spent more, mainly from Live time cards and sending in my 360 because it crashed on me or ate my new game disc (not when nephew knocked it over, it chewed up my RB2 disc T_T). 360 may be "cheaper", but you get what you pay for. Microsoft cut corners and ended up with a large hardware failure rate (over 50% in some reports from 2009). I've had two 360's RROD on me only days after I opened them (and I didn't keep them under blankets either). I never had to worry about my huge purchase crapping out on me, that's why I like playing the Wii and PS3. And they're both quiet. :p

Plus, on a more opinionated note like most of my previous posts, I do not like many of the exclusives on the PS3 besides MGS4...

Never know until you try them. I found the Gears/Halo/Fable games to be rather generic when compared to PC gaming. You haven't gamed until you've tried Uncharted 2 and Valkyria Chronicles or Little Big Planet. With Microsoft focusing on Kinect for the time being, you won't be getting as many hardcore games you've had in the past. 360 has started off strong but PS3 has gained a lot of ground, both with getting new developers on board or with AAA titles in the last two years alone.

EDIT: Now, yes, stock without sales and without used games, the PS3 can and probably is cheaper, however, with used games and the fact 360 stuff seems to be on sale much more often than the PS3 stuff...and without the need of wifi, the 360 kills in price...

PS2 is cheaper than everything these days. :p 2002 ftw!

Also, I put all of my games on my HDD for faster loading and what not and with 8+ games on it I am no where near filling up my "small" 160GB HDD... Oh, and I have movies and music on there too...

I've played possibly over twenty to thirty PS3 games since last fall and installed all of them that could be installed (talking 1-8gbs each) and ripped several of my music CDs and bought PSN titles too. My HDD still has plenty of room for movies or more data, not worried about having to delete something like I was with my 20 (it was actually 12) XBOX 360 HDD.

Get a PS3, because anonymous people on the internet say so:
It doesn't chew up your discs
Unique titles that aren't just regurgitated shooters (Halo 7, yay!)
You don't have to mute nasty 12-year olds (mileage may vary)
The Move is like an HD Wii, and you KNOW it'll have support from hardcore games, a problem that the Wii had ('cept for like Resident Evil 4)
It won't RROD days or weeks after you buy it (PS3 failure rate is 1-2% from online reports)
Blu-Ray is very impressive for movies such as Avatar or Live Free or Die Hard, but you will want to buy either an HDTV or a good ole fashioned 23' HDMI cabpable Monitor (I use my HP 2238h for both PC gaming (DVI port) and switch it over to PS3 gaming on my desk (HDMI port), less hassle that way and it saved me 400 bucks on a new TV).
You know games will run compared to a PC (just sayin' :P)
You are not forced to pay money to just play games with friends other than your internet bill
The system is quiet and doesn't make crunching noises every time it boots up a game
Has both a good library for M-rated games and family games (360 has more of the first, Wii has more of the second)
The PS3 has Kevin Butler commercials which are awesome :p
The controller is easier for fighting games compared to the 360. I ragequitted Street Fighter 4 so much due to that stupid wonky D-pad that isn't Up Down Left Right but NE NW SE SW. Hate that controller. >=|
Several games that were "360 exclusive" have eventually released on PS3 with better features like Star Ocean: The Last Hope, Eternal Sonata, and Castle Crashers (still coming).
Kevin Butler. ^_____________^

Get a PS3 and enjoy the heck out of it, the exclusives (and even third-party games like Dead Space) are what make the console so much fun. Being able to go online for free is not only a smart move for Sony, but also easier for us gamers. We shouldn't have to pay an extra cent to get the full features of our $60 games just so we can play with buddies.

Or get a Dreamcast, those graphics are insane. >.>

Although of the two I only own a 360, my votes gonna have to go to the PS3 for (at least the option of) free multiplayer and better exclusives. Can't say I care much about Blu-ray though.

Also, here are some more PS3 games to look into:
Metal Gear Solid 4
inFamous
Persona 5 (though I do hope for a 360 port so I can save money)

Alternatively I can present an even better option: Forgo the consoles and spend the money to upgrade your PC and then hang out more with rest of us PC folk!
