WoWHead vs Allakhazam vs Thottbot

I myself have switched over to using wowhead almost exclusively. I only use the other two databases when wanting more historical data.

At first, I thought wowhead was not as user friendly and limited in searches . . . until I figured out how to use it. Now I find it is actually more powerful and helpful when looking for stuff than the other two.

Also, one time and one time only, an ad on Thottbot contained a trojan that my anti-virus caught, which I am sure was an account keylogger.

My own personal opinion is that people should start using wowhead instead. Any other thoughts?

I'm with you, I made the change about 6 weeks ago and haven't looked back. I have found wowhead to be superior in the quality of data and layout. In a lot of ways, it is as if the ease of search with Thott has been combined with the quality of data found in Allak. Wowhead has my vote.

Yes I have started to make the switch. While wowhead has room to allow players to comment on how to complete some quests, there are times when wowhead (since it is new) has no user comments, and thottbot does on a particular quest.

Actually what helped me to learn more about wowhead's capabilities was wow-loot, which refers to wowhead almost exclusively now.

I do like the search engine wowhead has for finding gear more than even wow.allakhazam.com. It was this search engine where I first learned, for example, that the heavy clefthoof crafted gear (plus one other item) is the only leather armor with +def in the game.

Search Results for +def that druid's can use

Although a search like this also demonstrates the limitations of the search engine. For example it didn't find a single ring that had +def on it (hint I have 2 right now). Even when I removed searching for items that druid's can use, and instead searched for rings with +def, I couldn't find a one.

I only use Thottbot myself. I have tried to use the others and don't care for them. Maybe it's because I haven't "figured it out" myself, not sure. I have found Thottbot a whole lot more user friendly though for both Alliance quests, and Horde quests.

I prefer Thottbot over Wowhead when looking up quests and such because there are generally many more comments on Thottbot offering tips, suggestions, and experiences. Wowhead feels like it lacks community. Nice layout and good raw info though.

Considering how Allakhazam and Thottbot have been confirmed to be owned by the same gold-selling company, that's incentive enough to use WoWHead for me. :)

But, like Mike said, it hasn't been around as long so I'm forced to look at the others when I need "historical" info.

Really? I wasn't aware of this. Where was this confirmed at? If it's true, that's enough for me to stop using it as well.

By visiting their site but not contributing content (comments, game data, etc) you are costing them bandwidth and giving nothing in return. It's not as if visiting a site to look up quest info you are some how endorsing gold farming.

Actually, being in the online business myself, I know that websites are paid in two different ways regarding ads: impressions and click-through. They get paid every time an advertisement shows up as well as every time some one clicks on an ad. By actually visiting the site, you've paid them...yes, even if you have the AdBlock Plus addon for Firefox (which everyone should, right?) :)

...or Google it yourself :)

LOL. I've been running Adblock for so long I didn't realize Thottbot was still using impression ads. I've only seen the click-through text ads for ages.
