1.9 Issues

A post from Blizzard's website....

Thundgot from Blizzard made a post regarding some Talent Changes on the test servers.
We're still in the process of refining our changes to the Paladin talent trees. In the interest of keeping you informed of these developments, here are the latest changes, which will be updated on the Test Realm soon:

Blessing of Kings, the former 31 point talent in Retribution, has been shifted to the 11 point talent in the Protection tree.
Blessing of Sanctuary, the former 11 point talent in Protection, has been shifted to the 21 point talent in the same tree.
Holy Shield, the former 21 point talent in Protection, has been shifted to the 31 point talent in the same tree and has had its mana cost slightly reduced.
Repentance, the former 31 point talent in Protection, has been shifted to the 31 point talent in the Retribution tree.

Please be aware that, as developer and player alike continue to test patch 1.9, further changes will be made if deemed necessary.

Before you ask why numbers weren't buffed during the shift, please understand that talent trees aren't necessarily designed to get much stronger as you get deeper into the tree, but rather unlock more options along the same basic line. Other class trees are designed in precisely the same way.

The developers will continue to evaluate the situation and make changes should they find something lacking, never fear.

Seems Pallies are proving more difficult than first imagined.

Have you ever read the pally forums at world of warcraft. I can't imagine that the pally players themselves have ever come to some sort of agreement as to what is needed.

Its much like the priest forum. Lots of bickering very little consensus. Personally, I think priests are fine, the only problems being that our only defense/escape skill has been nerfed into non-existance and our inner fire has a useless add on. Why does a priest need + to attack power (priests are a non-melee class).

I tried the test realm before this change took place, then my test char got deleted. Other than thsi change, I feel paladins do have much more potential and options, and definitely more interactivity if we so choose.
So far it looks like retribution and holy trees have had good fixes, but because repentance got put into retribution the protection tree is a bit weak.
What paladins are most apathetic on the forums about is, I feel, the long history we've have since beta, when we were once melee hybrids that fought alongside the warriors in all situations while throwing a heal left or right occasionally. Now in all big instances/pvp grounds all we do (according to the forums) is cast cleanse and heal since the only way we're able to do significant dps is to HOPE for a proc on seal of command.
Remember when I went into BRD with a dress on? :D

Overall I feel 1.9 has a lot of potential, actually. I realized that now I have to specialize in one area, and not just grab the best of all 3 trees...

as a note, I think Blizzard made a very large mistake in starting to re-evaluate class trees before the first year anniversary and by doing them individually.

Warriors were the first to recieve a re-evaluation. They were a powerful class before and their changes really helped them in DPS. But now they have had their talents redone for 6 months and players have been playing them for a year. Now pallies are being looked at. Even if 1.9 came out today, pallies would be behind the curve compared to warriors.

Also by reviewing them individually, they've lost focus on how each class interacts with each other. This has caused class imbalances that can really only be fixed by over buffing classes that are at a disadvantage. No class should be at a disadvantage when facing another in a 1v1 open feild battle. But the rock paper scissors setup that appears to be forming ensures that this doesn't happen. And the biggest culprit is the rogue. Blizzard has made it clear that they don't want players to feel helpless and defensless in a pvp battle, with no control over their characters while they are decimated, thats what they said when they nerfed priests fear and put warlocks sedduce and fear on the same DR timer. Yet rogues, even of little skill, can completely shut down their opponents. And to top it off, they are buffing the rogues stunlock by putting the stuns acheived through the mace skill on seperate DR timer.
