Psalm 118:4
"Let them now that fear the Lord say that his mercy endureth for ever."
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, but it is also important we don't go too long without recognizing the tempering aspect of His mercy as well. Fear is a good first step to motivate necessary obedience when we are still young in our ways of understanding, but ultimately our service should be motivated by a trust in God's goodness and care for us, not worry that He will terribly punish us if we mess something up in some way.
