Ive played it. First off, its not that great of a game, a warcraft 3 wannabe that falls short of doing so. Its gfx are somewhat decent, but ridiculous when compared to the fact that its system requirements run it at about 5 fps if you are lucky, and you'll need a higher end system for smooth performance. There is blood, a lot of it, like in W3, but darker red, but can be disabled. Theme wise its the regular old LoTR theme, but none of the Biblical allusions in the book are in the game, but nothing offensive. If I were you, I would wait for Battle for Middle Earth, EA's LoTR RTS, which already looks to be way better then War of the Ring.
