Exodus 12:14 (NIV)
“This is a day you are to commemorate; for the generations to come you shall celebrate it as a festival to the LORD—a lasting ordinance."

Moses was given this command by God in response to the Passover. God sent a mighty plague upon Egypt, but any household that was marked with a blood sacrifice to God was protected. The plague was the final event that lead to captive Israel being freed from Egypt's tyranny. The festival became the annual celebration of God's authority and protection.

Which is not much different than today. As we progress through the Advent season, keep in mind that there was another blood sacrifice that marked us and protects us eternally. The Blood sets us free from captivity to sin and death. The annual festival we call Christmas should be a celebration of God's authority and protection.

Wonderful reminder - because of Christmas we have our Passover. Thanks.
