Proverbs 23:17 (NIV)
Do not let your heart envy sinners,
but always be zealous for the fear of the LORD.
It's easy to look at Hollywood and be envious. Big houses, fast cars, attractive mates, big parties, lavish vacations.... disposable marriages, broken children, early deaths from drug and alcohol addictions.
When we ignore the consequences of sin, it's easy to get sucked into wanting what someone else has. But the truth of it is, we are poor if we don't have our affairs in order with God. When we stop and consider what we gain from sin, it can't even compare to what we get with a life lived in fear of the Lord, in love with Christ.
