Stress Test Begins Tomorrow!

The World of Warcraft stress test beta is just a day away. Hundreds of thousands of gamers applied for the stress test this past week, and FilePlanet was up to the task, issuing over 100,000 accounts and providing the stress test beta client for download. With the signups and downloads complete, we are just about ready to welcome these gamers into World of Warcraft for the very first time.

Starting tomorrow, September 2nd at 12:00 noon PDT, stress test beta participants will be able to create their World of Warcraft accounts and begin playing the game. Their participation will help us optimize our account-creation and server infrastructure, and enable us to deliver the best online experience possible when the game launches later this year. We want to thank everyone who applied for the stress test beta, and we look forward to seeing the new testers online tomorrow when the stress test beta starts.

Selected stress test beta participants should keep an eye on their inboxes for an email containing further instructions. For more information on the World of Warcraft stress test beta, please check out our FAQ. To get a head start on learning how to play World of Warcraft, take a look at our beta strategy guide.

New PVP article on IGN giving information on the new battlegrounds and honor reward system.

One very important motivation in designing PvP into the World of Warcraft was to make it feel like Warcraft. Warcraft - starting back in the day with Orcs and Humans - was about the war between Horde and Alliance

We really wanted to bridge the gap. We wanted to design a game where people could have a good time adventuring and at the same time engage in PvP whenever they want, and be rewarded for doing so. That was the overarching goal.

Release Date Rumors

[b said:
Quote[/b] ]October 02, 2004 - Hidden amid the 51 PDF slides depicting Vivendi Universal Games' earnings report for the first half of 2004 was a discussion on growth drivers for the next few years, which included planned release dates for World of Warcraft, Blizzard Entertainment's highly-anticipated massively multiplayer online game. Dated September 14 of this year, the document stated three different planned release dates: November 2004 in the U.S., December 2004 in Korea, "early 2005" in Europe and "later in 2005" in Greater China and Taiwan.

Keep in mind, however, that the intentions of the publisher and the intentions of the developer do not always necessarily coincide, and Blizzard is one of the few developers who has the luxury of taking its time. But it is nevertheless interesting to note the separate international release dates.

New article on the upcomming raid system can be found here.

[b said:
Quote[/b] ]We knew from the beginning that players had an expectation going into World of Warcraft for a good raid game. Early on in development, we planned out everything that we felt would make for good raid content. We really tried to go top-heavy with it, to make these raid encounters truly spectacular, because we knew we weren't going to put in a steep leveling curve. We aren't going to bog people down in the normal leveling process, so we expect that there will be a lot of people at maximum level and they'll be anticipating some truly epic challenges. .

New patch on the way Tigole was nice enough to post a list of some of the changes here hopefully this patch will bring with it the open beta.
