xp hanging in startup with dual boot(vista)

ok so i have an acer5610 with vista preinstalled an so i installed xp to dual boo with vistaboot pro3.3 and i 1st had and ntldr error when trying to startup in windows then atown tweaked it and then we had a hal.dll error so we edited the boot.ini and now when i boot into xp i only get a blackscreen and i think im makin progress but im not sure.could someone possibly help me out
