Questions concerning RAM

How do I tell if RAM I want to buy will work with my computer? Noob question, I know, but it's 10:09 and I got a newsletter from Newegg with some decent RAM offers.
 
If you bought one from a manufacturer then it should be in your manual somewhere. If you bought it yourself it should be on the sheet that came with your motherboard. Usually what I do is just open my case and look at what kind of memory I have, and then buy the same type.
 
It's all up to the Motherboard. check with either Newegg.com, Your mobo manual or the manufacture site, to see if it works with each other, the PC # on the mobo and RAM has to match, the mobo has to support dual channel memory if your RAM is dual channel, and the maximum memory support on the mobo has to match the RAM. so pretty much you can just open two windows, one with the mobo specs on it, the other with the RAM specs on it, and make sure they match up.
 
either check your motherboard/manufacturer manual, or another look is CPU-Z that tells you what you already have and you'll know for sure what type will work

there's an easier way. id you buld this mahcine or not? If not goto crucial.com with IE(FF won't work right in terms of the tools) and run the system scan. it will identify the system AND the ram compatible for that system. If you built it yourself jsut look in your motherboard manual. Anything FASTER than what you cpu requires will work fine(up to whatever the motherboard can handle). If you are unsure post you specs here and we'll point you in the right place.
