Just curious: Who wants to work in the games industry?

I'm curious: How many of our forum regulars (and lurkers) want to work in the games industry?

I've daydreamed of working as a creative director or producer of some kind at a small independent development studio, but I haven't the foggiest as to how I'd land a job.

As a generic job in line with my educational path: Advertisement and Marketing, HECK YES.

I'd love to -but not as a one of the game dev team. The web development team or database management however...

I wouldn't call it a want as much as a need or God calling me to make Christian video games. I felt a very strong necessity in today's world to make them for a very long time. We have no presence where a large portion of our population spend a lot of it's time. I also know the current games being made are encouraging people to follow moral standards contrary to Christian thought.

I have a number of ideas for stories, art and gameplay. I can create art, textures and model a tiny bit but I wouldn't call me proficient because of my speed (or extreme lack thereof). I've also done artwork for customers of my Fathers printing company so I can design advertisement materials.

There have to be more than just six people on these forums who are interested in working in the games industry.

Don't be shy! Post and share your dream.

My dream is to be a professional slacker. If I am able to do so within the gaming industry then that would be even better.

Actually, I hate game development as it is such a convoluted field. Every few years a new standard comes out, forcing you to constantly keep relearning. Application and web development is a much more stable platform. Then again I have been snuggling up against the Qt framework the last few weeks. /me looks at QGLWidget and gets a few ideas...

DISCLAIMER: this post was made in the midst of insanity

I enjoy creative writing. While I would rather write novels for a living, I would leap at the opportunity to write the plot of a video game.

One of the issues with the gaming industry as a whole is that you can't "standardize" the process. At the same time this is great from a creative aspect as virtually nobody can challenge you on your methodology, only on your results.

As for hitting it off big, I would venture to say that they hire from existing artists in the field. If I was hiring for someone to write up a plot I would be looking for someone that has experience writing on similar material - it allows you to sample their previous works. Having a backlog of works (even some short stories) would lend much, much more credibility to your resume then coming in with just a degree and a wide eyed dream.

I have never dreamed about making video games... only testing them!

I would love to be paid to test games.

But... I'd love to do other things first.
