Free Realms... A new way to make money..

Well guys, go out and make your millions. You can now make money while maxing out a free realms character. They have now put live gamer in it. So you say that no one will buy your totally elite character for 40 bucks? They will never buy an elite item for 5 bucks! But, people, we are talking about a younger group of people. People that will buy an elite character from you, so they don't have to do any work. So with that, I will let you go out and make millions.

Most accounts for "sale" have been taken over via phishing or other illegal activities. There is a reason most companies make it illegal under their ToS.

That would be a interesting stat to see. "How many of the "live gamer" accounts from Vanguard, EQ2, and Free Realms are obtained from illegal activities?"

Actually, the Live Gamer system, made by Sony, is very legit, and makes buying and selling of characters and items legal and not dangerous like illegal sites such as IGE. Live Gamer was put in BY the game makers (Sony) and was intended to work with the game... This is a legit service offered by Sony... I don't think you are understanding what is going on here, it is not like the WoW trading and selling which is illegal...

I like LiveGamer a lot myself, but I can see both sides I guess. The EQ2 and Vanguard servers that the service is on are very small tight-knit communities with real helpful dedicated GM support and also auto-blogged archives of character milestones that include screenshots which show equipment and groupmates that would make it very hard to get away with outright theft and fraud there. Other games with larger communities that have more anonymity and less accountability I could see as having more problems to deal with.

I have had nothing but good experiences with selling and buying via LiveGamer.

Me neither. I have a lot of trust in LiveGamer themselves. We even have direct access to one of their reps on the sellers forum I belong to. But account security falls into the jurisdiction of the game producer rather than them, so while I run a decently profitable business with Vanguard right now, I would not even consider trying something with WoW if it were ever to come on to the system because Blizzard isn't willing to invest nearly as much into account security as Sony does. I think this is what other people are getting at, that it doesn't matter how legitmate the exchange site is if your stuff can be easily ripped off before it gets there.

Personally I think companies who don't want to prioritize security a little more should suck it up and realize it as a cost of doing business, but it's a free country for them to manage their own affairs however they please, just like I'm free to not trust them with my time and subscription money if I don't like their handling of it. Free Realms is a Sony product though, so I imagine things there should be pretty safe, however reports from the sellers forum are that it's pretty unviable in it's current form as coin sales aren't being allowed and item sales aren't worth the listing cost to put up. I haven't heard of a single seller being happy with it yet.

The thing here is there is a big difference between Legal and Illegal trading...

Doesn't mean that people wont try to abuse either system. Just because it is legal to exchange money doesn't mean I don't have a chance of receiving counterfeit script.

Well, now you are just talking about anything, even shopping on amazon you have that chance, but Live Gamer is as secure, if not more secure than amazon...or any other online store for that matter...
