WRATH OF HEROES
Warhammer Online: Wrath of Heroes is the newest Play4Free title from BioWare that puts players in a fight for their lives with competitive PvP arena combat. These explosive three team battles aren't for the faint of heart as success hinges on destroying all who oppose your team to strategically claim and hold bases. This is the legendary Warhammer Online like you've never seen it before where to emerge victorious and claim your rightful place atop the leaderboards, you must live to fight.
Features include:

- Accessible Gameplay: Fast fierce fun that takes the best from Warhammer Online and delivers dynamic 3 Team PvP scenarios all for free.

- Explosive Three Team PvP Combat: Experience innovative 6 v 6 v 6 battles where the competition is fierce and strategic alliances are made to be broken .

- Swap Heroes on the Fly: Change the tide of any battle by selecting a new hero mid-game - confound your foes and dominate the battlefield.

Take everything awesome from Warhammer: Online (the PvP), and turn it into a completely separate game in an arena style? Yeeesss pleaaaase.

I can't wait! Been playing the free forever trial and enjoying it, but slowly the servers are merging again and again. I think BioWare's F2P model will breathe new life into WAR and be very successful.

I saw "three team PvP" and my eyes got wide.

Then I saw each "team" was comprised of only 6 players and I frowned. :(

I don't think there'll ever be another player versus player combat like Dark Age of Camelot's RvR, which is unfortunate. There's nothing quite like joining 50 other players and heading into the frontiers.

EDIT: But this game sounds promising nevertheless!

Agreed.

18 players on the field at once with each team trying to beat out 2 enemy teams for control points, castle defense, and ladder status? WOOHOO!!!!

6v6v6 will ensure quick matches. It also allows small groups of friends to make their mark.

I agree DAoC raised the bar on RvR that is second to none....but this game isn't pushing that in their marketing campaign.

Would like to see Bioware-Mythic build on this idea and offer it on a larger RvR scale though as well.

Agreed.

Though I don't think RvR scale combat would work well in a free-to-play game. With F2P, there's a wider range of player "investment" (in terms of money, time, and emotional attachment). Players who regularly buy items from the in-game store (or however the game will make its developer and publisher money) fight alongside people who won't ever spend a dime on the game.

In games like WoW, you know that everyone is spending $13-$15 a month--there's a baseline for player investment. There's risk involved: Break the rules and your account--along with all the stuff you've accumulated--gets banned.

In games like LoL, there's no such risk. (Maybe that's why the LoL community is, to borrow a phrase, a "noxious hellhole." It's more complex than that, of course, but the low point of entry and minimal risk doesn't help motivate people to behave themselves.)

I'm not saying that you won't find nice people playing F2P games. If I can find strangers playing Quake Live politely, then you stand a chance to find nice strangers in (almost) any game.

But I just don't see 50-player mobs coordinating in a F2P game like they would in a game like DAoC (which I guess is just one more reason why WAR's lack of a third faction was disappointing).

What Icthus and Tek said.

It's sad that not even Mythic's second MMO lived up to DAoC's awesomeness.

Nice! I have very much been enjoying Wrath of Heroes. Today's beta is 10AM EST-9PM EST, and Saturday (tomorrow) is like 1PM EST-5PM EST....they have been sticking to only weekends for now so maybe play WoH on the weekend and BF3 during the weekdays? =D
