A couple of questions...

I've only been playing with the henchies when I go out on quests/missions, and I always have to split the gold with them. Is this how it works when you team up with other guild members too? Does the gold get split between your guild? If that's the case, how do you ever get enough gold to buy the better armor as you level up?

What are the mechanics of a guild? How do you get people to join you? Do you just make a comment that you need someone to help you with a mission? Do they have to be at the same level as you? What if they've already done that mission, can they do it again to help you?

Okay, so that was more than a couple of questions. :o

Thanks in advance. :)

Yes it works the same way.

As you get further, the gold drops as well as the gold you can get for your item drops will get much more impressive. The higher the level of monster, the more they drop. Basically I found my first character to be a little bit of a struggle. After that, I knew where I could go to get good weapons with my high level character(s) to help supply my newer guys.

If you search back a ways, Halonic made a post on how to get rich in game. And he lists the best farming spots from the beginning of the game until you get to the end.

Treasure is always divided up within your group. For example, if there are three people in your group, wether they are henchies, guildies, or just other people, then the loot is split three ways. Gold is divided by three, and the drops will be randomly assigned to one of the three people.

You can form a group in a town or outpost. Click on the person that you want to join your group, just like you would add a henchman, then click the invite button in the party window. They can now either accept or reject your invitation.

There are several ways to make the money needed for the expensive armor. The most popular way is to "solo farm" which means that you do not group with anyone else so you do not have to divide the treasure, and then, using a specific build, you repeatadly kill the same monsters over and over again. Then you can sell the weapon upgrades, green items, runes, etc. to other players for gold.

As for missions, you can group with anyone of any level, even if they have already done the mission before. There are some special circumstances regarding Tyrian born characters in the Shing Jea missions in Factions and Canthan born characters in the pre Lion Arch missions in Prophecies. In those cases, if a group has a Tyrian or Canthan born character respectively, in it, that group will not recieve the rewards for completing the mission.

I hope I have answered some of your questions. I'm not the best one to answer on the mechanics of a guild, so hopefully someone else can give you the details on that. I hope I didn't confuse you!

Hey! First, guildwiki has some builds for solo farming. That might help you.

As far as mechanics of guild, we'll be happy to answer any questions. The answer is 42.

Just kidding! I'm not really sure what you want to know, but clarify and we'll explain it.

In fact, you can post here with the title of your mission and its start time, and almost certainly people will show up to help you out. For instance, if you wanted to do Abaddon's Mouth, you'd just post something like 'Abaddon's Thursday 9:30 PM EST'. If you don't want to make your mission 'official', then you can always just spam the guild/alliance channels - aka announce your mission and see if anyone logged in at that moment wants to join you.

As you progress through the game, you'll have to do more and more with real people instead of henchies. We all understand that and have been in that situation ourselves, and most of us also have newer characters who may very well need many of those missions. So please be sure to ask for help with those tough missions!

One quick note re: making money in Guild Wars: Halonic is the real expert on money-making, but let me just say that you won't make the big bucks by just picking up gold. The real money comes from stuff like black dye, certain runes you salvage from rare armor (particularly superior vigor), rare items (particularly gold and green) and rare materials (globs of ectoplasm, obsidian shards, etc). You can certainly find the dye early in the game, but most of the rest of the stuff you won't come across much until later.

You asked as well about the mechanics of a guild. I see that others have commented on how to ask for help in the forum, but I thought I would elaborate a little more in case you wanted more general info. A guild is basically similar to your friends list with a set of people who are members of that guild. People in a guild can communicate through the guild chat channel regardless of physical location in the game.

A guild is made up of 1 leader, any number of officers and members.

Officers (per the game mechanic) are responsible for:
  • Inviting new members (cost: 100 gold)
  • Inviting guild hall guests (cost: 100 gold)
  • Kicking members (so far, only done for inactivity to make room for new members in SoE and should not be done further with SOE available)
  • Promoting members to officer status
  • Allowing GvG rated matches by being part of the party

In addition to the abilities of an officer, the leader is the only one able to do many things. These include:
  • Buying/changing the guild hall (cost: 1 celestial sigil)
  • Buying/changing the guild cape (cost: 2 plat)
  • demoting officers
  • setting up alliances with other guilds in Factions
  • disbanding the guild

Alliances are a set of allied guilds who share the Alliance Chat channel. Members of an alliance guild can visit any guild hall of the other allied guilds.

In town, members of your guild will have the guild tag highlighted in yellow and members of allied guilds will show up in orange.

As for making money and being able to get better armor, I agree that as you progress, the rate you get money and the value of the items you pick up will steadily increase. As for Armor, don't feel that you need to buy every piece of armor. In prophesies and on Shing Jea Island there are numerous collectors that offer different levels of armor in trade for items you get as drops. If you are in prophesies, feel free to let me know when you reach the desert. I have stockpiles of several of the collector items that I'd be happy to give you so that you can get a set of max armor. When I say max, I mean max AC level, Droknar's Forge has armor that is a slight upgrade from this, but 2 of my characters are still wearing desert collector's armor. If you're in factions, I have several of the collector items for armor there as well, although you won't get max armor until you leave the island.

Yeah, I just replaced my primary's last piece of collector's yesterday: her hose. And I've already completed the missions with her! I changed because of the recent game update, which affected some of the armors. (I never really liked the look anyway!)

Wow, you guys are so great. I knew this was the right board to sign up for!! :D

You've all been more than helpful and I will remember your offers of help and donations as I travel along Tyria!

I finally leveled up to 11 and I have the pyromancer's armor. I'm doing the build that MaidMyrawin gave in another thread (it's great and easy to follow).

I bought Factions a couple of weeks ago and my son is already level 11 and my daughter is level 5. I've only gotten to level 3, but I've been working on Prophecies.

Thanks again and God bless!
