a new card....

Used _____ all my life, and never had any problems...got ________ 2 months ago, and the problems were abundant...

So, through personal experience, _________ sucks!

Fixed.

I'm trying to find the scientific theory here. I think we are on the right track. The real way to test is to get comparable cards on the same system and test some games out.

I will say this that the monitor makes a huge difference too. I had a crappy monitor, but a better card than my wife's computer, but her screen always looked awesome. Go figure.

thats why I posted my story:P its all the same in the end, you ignore the imperfections in something you believe in and make a big deal out of every little thing if you dont believe in it. Kinda like Nvidia sucks because I changed OSes and now my computer doesnt like the vid card and I cant find the driver so it must be the companies fault and then you find a driver that works but they still suck:P If that was an ATI card you would of dealt with any issue that arose and not made a big deal out of it, in fact you would of probably thought "Oh if this had been nvidia I would of spent twice as long looking for a driver!"

new macbook pro line is out...looks like they have switched to all Nvidia cards in them.

Uhoh Xion... your loved Mac has your hated video card what will you do?!?!?

I am not pro Mac, I am more pro Linux, but I do prefer Mac over windows...

I remember voodoo2s, think it was the 2s or was it the original I had where you could buy 2 and have an SLI cable connecting them for twice as much 3d power!

Been using ATI cards and AMD processors since they came out. I used nvidia here and there (and now), and can honestly say... ATI sucks. Everyone who thinks you should go with ATI over NVIDIA is still living in a dreamworld where Cyrix processors are a force to be reckoned with. My laptop has an ATI card. It's a NIGHTMARE to get 3d acceleration working. They have horrible drivers.

Your computer has an ATI Radeon Xpress 200 Integrated. Integrated. Integrated. Integrated. *implodes*.

We need more information than just your video card type. That's on-board. I need to know what kind of motherboard you have, so... go to google.com and type in "cpuz". Get cpuz, run it and go to the "Mainboard" tab. Write down the following:

Code:
Manufacturer:
Model:
Chipset:

BIOS:
 Brand:
 Version:
 Date:

And let us know. Thanks. :D

Oh, go to the memory tab too and let me know what kind of memory you have:

Code:
Type:
Channels #:
Size:
DRAM Frequency:
FSB:DRAM:
CAS# Latency(CL):

In a recent Maximum PC issue they benchmarked the best ATI card in crossfire vs. the best nVidia in SLI, and it was very close, but ATI actually got just a little over the nVidia cards...

In theoretical benchmark testing... That's the catch. ATI may have a slight edge in terms of horsepower, but they never work correctly with drivers/directx/games/window.

I would suggest this video card

ash562000, what is your purpose for getting a new video card?

If you're trying to get a video card to make games run faster, there's something ELSE you have to do. You need to get more memory to go with it. 512mb isn't going to cut it. Adding another 512mb for a total of 1gb also isn't going to cut it much.

What's your total budget here?

Not knowing your budget, I'll propose some information... this isn't top of the line, but it should give you such a massive boost on everything you do:

8600 GT 512mb: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150247 - $99.99
$20.99 memory (DDR2-533): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820144151 (get 2 of them)

total: ~$142

that gets you 2gb of ram and a decent video card... should keep you going for a while.
