I was on gametrailers and saw a few trailers for a game that piqued my interest because of it's biblical references and non-violent gameplay. Curious about the possibility of a higher quality Christian game than most I searched the net. The game and developer web sites seem to elude to a moral center but make no direct statement about the company being Christian http://www.adams-venture.com/ http://www.vertigo-games.com/ . They do have what seems to be a legit WWJD Iphone game though. Anyway the game they were showing looks decent, not wonderful, but certainly better than most Christian games. I thought I'd bring it to your attention should anyone be interested. I do wish I could confirm if they are Christian developers but it may be they have just a few Christians on staff.

I only watched the first two and I think the name says it all. Adam looking for his lost garden after Eve gave him the apple. However while that could be the story, there are lots of stories/games/novels/movies that have a biblical theme to it without necessarily being Christian.

Something interesting I noticed tho was at the end of the ones I saw, there was a map and the title comes up, with the website and all that jazz, but when those fade out the background is a map of Iran. There are a couple names that are clearly visible like Shiraz and Bushire, which wikipedia says are cities in Iran. Just a food for thought.

Yeah there are lots of games that use the bible and aren't Christian but they generally involve demon slaying (or being one) with blood and guts everywhere :p. This one seems pretty non-violent and showed what appeared to be a puzzle with biblical scripture references in one shot. I think the company may not be strictly Christian but has some people on staff who are.

I think the game graphics look good because it's the unreal engine so someone dropped some coinage to license that.

note: Adam's Venture = Ad-venture I think, cheesy :p.

Doom 3 was a Christian game? I didn't know that. Is that true? In what way?

Oh - okay. So did Van Helsing and Hellboy. I enjoyed the movies but they were certainly not Christian.

Same with Doom. It was the first shooter game for me. I enjoyed them but I never thought of any of them as Christian.

It does look slow and repetitive it's just given the other Christian Competition it looks better XD. There are some slower games I liked though. If it turns out like Tomb Raider, but without the fighting, that sounds alright as the exploration and puzzle elements were ok by themselves.

By "Christian" game I mean a game that expresses a Christian worldview and morality not just one that uses imagery/concepts associated with Christianity. Of course I don't know for certain which category Adam's Venture falls into which is why I was trying to find out. I probably won't be buying it in either case (I am extremely selective in what I buy as I buy little). I'm just trying to put the word out for interested parties as there are so few Christian games that approach this level of graphics.

Ha, funny anecdote: one of the pictures of "What Would Jesus Say" shows "Jesus" saying "For we walk by faith, not by sight." A quote of the Apostle Paul, not Jesus.

The question in my mind is "so what?" If Adam's Venture is Christian, so what? And if it isn't, so what? Will it change anything?

You can assume the "So what?" is the moral path taken. Most games pit you against the bad guys. Few games offer paths other then that. Armored core for answer allowed you to personally doom millions of innocents or ensure the eventual destruction of the earth's atmosphere. In one case a fairly large portion of the population suffers and dies, in the other you are only delaying the inevitable. Either way your hands are covered in blood. Lets say you are an explorer and come across a hostile force. Given that you have a firearm should you use it? You could attempt to disarm and disable rather then outright killing them. Does it change anything? Probably not. But how does that effect his walk with Christ? The developer could factor in a guilt trip for the people you have murdered in cold blood. Lets say you are in a bank robbery, you just disarmed one of the robbers and the others haven't noticed yet. What do you do?
 
I guess what I was asking is, if indeed Adam's Venture proves to be a Christian game, or proves to not be a Christian game, does that effect what it is you do with it in any practical way?
