Add injury to insult

I know that saying is backwards, but it works better this way today.

I was out applying for a seasonal retail job, which is the insult part of the story due to having a college degree and 8 years of professional experience and I still can't find a job.

The injury part is that when I get to my car it won't start and the check engine light comes on. Now I'm taking it to the shop I can't afford to pay for and will have to borrow money from my dad. What a day.

Dude, seriously. You have car trouble entirely too often.

I should give you my number so that the next time this happens you can call me and get it looked at where I work... just buy parts and pay the tech directly (and avoid most of the service rates, I know how high they can be). PM me if you'd like.

Isn't this the same problem you had before?

The car thing is kinda nuts. I bought it brand new in 2003 and it's been the perfect car up to this year. Its like it decided to get grumpy all of a sudden. It's a 2003 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V. Pretty nice car... Who knows why it's going bad all of a sudden.

Last time it was my MAF sensor... I'm betting this time it's the fuel pump. I'll find out tomorrow though.
 
$850... yaaaaay! *sarcasm*

I had this car for 8 years and am the only owner.. it's been the perfect car all those years I was working and had money. But now that I've been unemployed for a year and a half I've had the car break down 4 times. haha.
 
straight from the dealership:

"we pulled codes for camshaft and crankshaft sensors; sensors have an open circuit and have motor oil were they connect to the harness. With the inspection we found that the upper radiator hose along with the heater core coolant hoses were swallon. The lower radiator hose was luke harm confiming that the engine coolant system is not releasing pressure, we recommend to replace both upper and lower hoses, both thermostats and radiator cap and perform a coolant system flush to clean up any trash."
 
Hmmm... those dealerships..... I'd find some local Christian backyard auto-mech and get a second opinion.
 
I've sent the dealers findings to the shop I normally take it too (I took it to the dealer cause I had a warranty cause my last issue I got it towed to the dealer cause I broke down nearby it). They haven't gotten back to me yet.

I do know both those things need to be fixed.. just waiting to see what the other shop will charge me.
 
Wow that's a ridiculous amount to charge for that. I had to replace all of my radiator hoses, thermostat and flush the system a couple months back and it only cost me $50 to do it myself.
 
Yeaaaaah. The dealership charges $105 per hour for labor which is insane. I have to pay someone to do at least some of it because I can't fix the errors in the ECU. Darn you computers!!!!
 
I'll admit to knowing NOTHING about how cars work. It's a lot like my microwave - I know how to turn it on and get the results I want, but no clue how it works. But all that stuff that was wrong with it sounded almost like a sitcom making a parody of car mechanics trying to rip someone off.
 
$105 for labor an hour is pretty insane. I'm a locksmith and we only charge $90 per hour... We even reduced our labor costs to bring in more business. I just don't like taking my car to an auto shop. I always feel like I'm getting ripped off.
 
I hear ya... It is a rip. I could prolly do these things myself except I wouldn't be able to plug in the ECU to fix the errors. Computers are a pain.

In better news I talked to my other shop and they are charging $520.00 for everything. That's good stuff :)
