Aion Tower of Eternity

Has anybody heard of this? For my mind it looks awesome and you get wings at lvl 10, meaning persistent world PvP flight. I had my heart set on GW2 but this is appealing to me.

My only problem is that last time i was this excited about an MMO was for Fury, which I just found out has closed all servers leaving me with an $80 game I can't play. Fingers crossed this game is good and goes the distance.

GW has turned into a grindfest. I wont be purchasing any more expansions and I wont be getting GW2. Why can't developers put out games that depend on skill and not how much time one spends on their virtual job?

Well that is what Fury tried to do. Then it died and died big time. Srry still cranky about its death.

The game still had grinding. I played it for a few days before I got sick of it.

1) The game took eternity to load. So much so you were often killed by the opposing player/team. This seemed to get worst as time goes on, and eventually led to me deleting it from my system.
2) The skill list had so many duplicated skills it took ages to customize a build.
3) No penalty for falling.
4) Most of the time you ended up fighting AI because the servers were deserted.
5) The game looked pretty bad. Some of the lighting effects (portals in particular) looked splendid, but the rest of the game was DULL (as in kill me now, I am tired of staring at brown and red).

That seems to be fairly standard these days, you really can't take away points for boring art direction. It's still kinda rare to find a good game with good art direction and a diversified color palette.

Edit: At least, for me it is. My tastes are kinda funny though.

True, but I can't admit it due to cognitive dissonance kicking in. In any case i hope Aion is good and I hope GW2 is excellent then I will just have to buy both.

My first thought at first glance: It looks like Guild Wars in space with a truly persistent (instead of largely instanced) world, and thus a monthly fee.

I've retired from MMOs, but if I were to pick a single game to pay a monthly fee for, it would be Warhammer Online. Mythic, developers of WAR, also developed Dark Age of Camelot, whose RvR (realm versus realm) gameplay made WoW's PvP look like touch football in the kindergarten schoolyard.
