It's not complete but it does show you a comparison, which is very nice. So far I'm headed down the Scryer path by the looks of things.
 
Thanks for posting this. Looks like I'll be going the Aldor route. Sorry to seem so oblivious to the two factions, but what exactly are they and how do you gain rep with them? Please tell me this isn't another pvp thing. plllllllease!
 
Aldors and Scryers are two factions within Shattrath - the Dreinai capitol. They actually sub-divide the city with opposing faction, so any gain with one causes a larger detriment to the other, much like the Magram/Gelkin herds in Desolace.

It's not PvP oriented, but I don't recall exactly how you gain faction with each side... I looked into it a few weeks ago, but decided that I wasn't going to honor grind in the beta, so I never chose a side. From what little I remember, it's a grind, much like the furbolgs in Felwood... turning in faction items that drop from random mobs.

Part Two: Shattrath Factions
Shattrath is a big city in Terrokar Forest, a sanctuary and the main Outland hub, connecting it to all the major cities in Azeroth through portals. The city is ruled by a group of Naaru known as the Sha’tar, strange but powerful beings who drove the demons out of Shattrath and manage to maintain an uneasy truce between the rival Aldor and Scryer factions. You might think of it as the Switzerland of the Outland.

Aldor vs. Scryer
The Aldors are Draenei and the Scryers are Blood Elves, but they are neither Alliance nor Horde and everyone starts with a Neutral reputation with both. Now here’s the deal. You can swear allegiance to both factions but doing quests for one earns you negative points for the other, which practically forces you to pick a side. Both factions have banks and other facilities in Shattrath but one difference I’ve noticed is that the Aldors have a Grandmaster Jewelcrafter while the Scryers have a Grandmaster Enchanter. The reputation rewards are also different so it might be a good idea to examine those first before choosing a side.

As promised, I am focusing on the Shattrath factions this week. In addition, I have discovered another Outland faction called Kurenai.


The New Factions



ALDOR

Who are they?
“An ancient order of draenei priests once run by Velen, the Aldor are currently led by High Priestess Ishanah. They are servants of the naaru in Shattrath City known as the Sha’tar. Rivals of the Scryers.”

What do they want?
You can gain good favor with the Aldors by doing quests for them in and around Shattrath. As you gain rep with the Aldors, you lose the equivalent rep points with the Scryers.

What do they offer?
Quartermaster Endarin and Inscriber Saalyn can both be found in the Aldor quarters of Shattrath and they have quite a few goodies to offer.

SCRYER

Who are they?
Vorenthal the Seer leads the dissident blood elves who have rejected Kael’thas’ path to power. They’ve joined forces with the naaru of Shattrath City, much to the dismay of the Aldor.

What do they want?
You can gain favor with the Scryers by doing quests for them in and around Shattrath City. As you gain reputation points with them, your Aldor rep diminishes.

What do they offer?
Quartermaster Enuril can be found in the Scryer section of Shattrath. He has various goods to sell depending on your standing with the Scryers.

So if you are doing quests for the Aldors and turning in "stuff", you will become hated with the Scryers. Will you be attacked by them in the capital city?
 
last time i was there, they just freeze trap you and teleport you to a neutral area of the city. However, I've heard rumors that it's buggy and saw someone in /general complaining that they were actually killed instead of frozen.

But that's been a few weeks. Hopefully, they're back to just freeze/porting.
 
Actually... you aren't supposed to be attacked by anything in Shattrath City. If you attempt to fight, you are usually portalled outside of the City. Sometimes, you are portalled to places outside the city where you don't want to be.

(Of course, that is all looking-over-a-hordie's-shoulder experience on my part, so real betaers would know more)

Rep can be gained by doing quests... mobs in instances also drop various items that can be turned in for rep, such as armaments and texts.
 
The way Vicky and I plan to go is:

Aldor: Mage (my main) Priest (her alt)
Scryer: Druid (her main) Paladin (my alt)

That way we get a good coverage of what we want on mains/alts as well as individual accounts.
 
Bump and request sticky. This is important information for any bringing their character through the 60s. It was on page 6 at the time of this bump.

so Scryers are the ONLY place to get my top level enchanting then right?
 
Ok I looked over things and for Feral Druids I thought that Aldor might be slightly better than Scryer (I don't have any crafting professions). Overall I didn't really see much difference though for feral druids. Am I missing something? Just don't want to find out later I made the wrong choice.

Well, frankly speaking someone has really wrecked the Aldor vs. Scryer listing on WoWwiki.com. It used to be so informative, now it's just junk.

I largely chose Scryers because I'm an alchemist, however.
 
I went ahead and went Aldor instead of Scryer, primarily because the dps ring that you can get from the Aldor side appears to be higher quality than any item that the Scryer quests have to offer.

It depends on what class ya play for the rings. The ring that is obtained from Aldor is a melee ring that has +18agi, +27sta, and has the "Equip: Increases attack power by 38." For the Scryer ring, it is a caster ring that has +22sta, and has the "Equip: Improves spell critical strike rating by 11" and "Equip: Increases damage and healing done by magical spells and effects by up to 33."

The Aldor ring is a blue ring and the Scryer ring is a purple one. The Aldor one is obtained at Revered while the Scyer one is obtained at Exalted reputation.

Personally, I went with the Scyer faction for the great caster ring, and the trinket that they offer.
 
Unless you're after a particular crafting recipe, I'd recommend choosing based on the shoulder enchant (inscription) that you want. Most of the items can be substituted for from easy-to-get instance drops.

For ferals, the 1st shoulder inscriptions available are:
Aldor - +26 AP, or +13 dodge
Scryer - +13 defense, or +13 crit

Absolutely. I was looking purely from a feral druid perspective.

Both are good, not sure which is definitively better for tanking. With +def there comes a point where too much does no good. The same can't be said about dodge (except if you end up rage starved I suppose).

Still if one has a hard time reaching that all important +def number then it can be very helpful.

Between +crit and AP, again not sure which is better, though I would say Scryer has the edge on that one.
