So do you think that there should be mandated prayer in school? (No one has made it illegal for students to pray in school, on their own; I am talking about school led prayer on a regular basis.)

If you do think that prayer should be brought back, why? Do you think that the moral decay would be stopped by that? (and personally, I blame families for not instilling values into their children)

Finally, which prayer? I realize that there are simply Christians and atheists here (to the best of my knowledge), but...what would you think of Father O'Mally leading a prayer for your children, invoking Mary's blessing? And what of the non-Christian children? Should a Hindu or Buddhist child be forced to pray to Jesus? Heck, Jews for that matter?
 
You encounter this in Boyscouts, usually there we had a general prayer, if we referrence God, it would usually be said as Oh Great spirit, or oh Great provider. the leaders of BSA try to stay as PC as possible.

Prayer in school is highly frowned apon, and even discourged where i came from. they would give you 10 seconds of silence then sit down and do your work, right after the pledge. Maybe if instead the school would just simply say, after the pledge or whenever, if it is your custom to pray , please take a moment and do it, or take a moment to reflect on your self and set your self ready for this day.
 
I agree with Lion in pretty much. After the pledge you should not be forced to pray a certain prayer or in the case of lets use Medjai not pray at all. But they should give you 2-4 minutes after the pledge or so forth to pray if that is your desire. I dont think a 2-4 moment of silence is going to offend or interrupt anything.
 
Why is the time immediatly following the Pledge "prayer time"?

You don't need a certain allotted time to pray. When I was a Christian, I prayed whenever I felt like it. It's not hard, its done in your head, and you don't need any outside help....
 
Becuase If I remember correctly the pledge is at the beginning of the day. Personally I dont believe in praying in your head I believe you must pray with your mouth. Like I said I dont think a 2-4 minute of silence is going to intterupt or offend anyone.
 
How is it going to be silent, then, if you're praying "with your mouth"?

And where does it say that you must pray with your mouth in the Bible? What does it matter in what manner you pray to an omniscient and omnipresent God? Futhermore, does God have actualy functioning ears, that he may literally hear your prayers? *shrug*

And yes, it is in the beginning of the day. But 2-4 minutes of silence in homeroom will NOT work. Administration has announcements to make and students have conversations to hold. My freinds were all pissed the other day when their homeroom teacher decided to have a "silent homeroom" so that no one would miss morning announcements. They were on the brink of revolution

Besides, by putting in such a moment of silence (one that is not being held for osmething such as a tragedy, or in memory of something) just screams that it is to be used for prayer - otherwise, what would the point be?
 
Well yea it would be for prayer. After the announcments and all that I think would be find what wrong with adding four minutes to the school day? As far as how you pray with your mouth that is kind of all over the bible. God my be omnipotent and all that, but there are ways he wants to be worshipped. ~EDIT~ By silent I meen doing nothing else but either sitting or praying or not working would be another way to put it.
 
Yeah, well, when less than 5% of the student population actually practice the religion they claim to adhere to, I really don't think that would go over well. I mean, I wouldn't even be allowed to read during that time, I'd be VERY pissed if that happened.

It wouldn't happen though.
 
Why would you be mad if that happend? I would have nothing against reading no exact statment of guidlines has been proposed by any of us yet.
 
I'd be mad because I'd be forced to do NOTHING for four minutes. That's four minutes where I am usually allowed to talk, read, or do homework before I get on with seven hours of school.
 
sit there and reflect apon your self during that time like 1-2 mins TOPS, and your not forced to pray, the time is offered it does not offened any one religion, because it is PC, and if you have nothing better to do think of the hot girls around you fool.!
 
Is it a bit ironic or just my insanity that a nation which loves to use other nations as legalized slave labor would also call itself a Nation who trusts in GOd?
GOd in the person of Jesus Christ said to NOT cheat the worker of his wage, and to do unto others as you would that they do unto you.
So if it is NOT illegal to pay the Mexicans and the Chinese our minimun wage and NOT their own, which is a slave wage,why would we do otherwise?
Perhaps because we worship mammon(the love of money) and NOT Jesus Christ who with THE FATHER in him is THE LORD GOd?
i do not see a need to force anyone who does not care to, to pray to a GOd.
Better that the many see the few for ONCE behave EXACTLY as a christian after the fashion of Paul, and then if those predestinated to salvation care to pray, then you may let them pray as they care to at a time appropriate for a school.
And when there are no more schools, but only apprenticeships, then it will be appropriate at ANYTIME. amen

Whatever. It's not going to happen, so I don't really care. I mean, I don't mind saying "under God" in the flag salute or anything, I'm not going to get all anal about it, but atleast I don't have to worry about my entire homeroom being commandeered...

and yeah, my school does have some hot girls =D
