Another Double Reward Weekend 26 September 2006
This coming weekend, from Noon PDT on Friday, September 29 through 11:59 p.m. PDT on Sunday, October 1, you will receive double experience from capturing elite skills. Instead of gaining 250 times your level in XP, you will receive 500 times your level. Join Guild Wars this weekend and enjoy the bonus XP.

Figures, I just finished capping almost every elite available to most of my characters. They added the XP right after I finished capping almost every Prophesies skill too.

Now that I'm done complaining, there are still a lot of skills out there for me to cap and I think I'll be saving my signets of capture until this weekend. If anyone has had their eye on a specific elite, this looks like the time!

10,000XP per elite goes a long way toward that next skill point to buy another signet of capture.

it may, but it doesnt add to the 1k gold you need. that will be my problem.
On a brighter note, i do want to cap stuff for my rt. i have to check my handy dandy guide book for what i want.

Oooh me too, I don't have a single elite skill for my ritualist at the moment although he's well beyond HzH/Cavalon at this point.

The normal skills you use in Guild Wars are 'bought' from a skill trainer, or received as a quest reward. Elite skills cannot be bought (except by PvP-only characters, using Balthazar Faction) or earned through quests, and must instead be captured. To capture an elite skill, you must put a 'signet of capture' into your skill bar, and then when you're nearby a slain 'boss' character (identifyable by a unique name as well as an aura indicating the boss's profession) you activate the signet and it is replaced with a skill the boss had, of your choice. You can capture non-elite skills in this way (sometimes a boss will have a skill you can't buy until later in the game) but there will always be exactly one elite skill you can get from that boss. Most bosses always 'spawn' in the same area - maps of spawn points can usually be found at www.guildwiki.org - just type the elite skill name into the search box, then look to see which boss has it and click on that boss's name. Some bosses are easy to get to, some are hard. For the hard ones, it is often beneficial to join a 'cap group' with others who are looking to capture skills from bosses in the area.

It used to be that 'capping' only got you a skill, but now you get experience as well each time you cap (not sure if only for elites?). This weekend the reward will be doubled.

One thing to keep in mind about elite skills - they're almost always better than similar non-elite skills, but you can only have one on your skill bar at a time. The only exception is right after you cap (but once you rezone, one of the two elites will disappear from your skill bar).

Mirawyn, Tarabeth, and Drian all need elites. Mirawyn only has about four or five, total, even though she finished Prophecies! Tarabeth has, I think, one; Drian has one or two.

Great write-up dorkelf, just one addition:

but there will always be exactly one elite skill you can get from that boss.

Just as you can have only one elite equipped, so can the boss. However, not all bosses have an elite skill. In Tyria, The Crystal Desert is where bosses begin to have elite skills. Bosses in Ascalon, Northern Shverpeaks, Kryta and the Maguuma Jungle do not. In Cantha, no boss on Shing Jea Island has an elite skill.

Also, your first 2 signets of capture are free per character IF you do the quests first. In Tyria, the quests are the ones given by Magi Malaquire in Lion's Arch. In Cantha, the quests are the ones given by Minister Jaisan. Each has you go recover an artifact before giving you the quest to "try out" a signet of capture (given free when accepting the second quest) and a second signet after you have successfully captured an elite skill. These quests can only be done by characters native to their continent, so you can't get 4 free signets.

I had actually bought 15 or so signets of capture back before they jacked the prices up to 1k :P I remember it used to cap pretty low.

lol same with The One. he finished and is starting factions and has i think... barrage, melanderu's arrows, oath shot, and ViM, poison arrow and thats it :)
my rt has nothing

So maybe we can all agree on a time or something and get these skills? Problem is that all of us need diff ones. SO maybe we can pare up someone like all the rangers, all the monks ect...?

There are a few areas that will allow multiple professions to have a shot at capturing a skill. I'll try to send a message out in alliance chat before heading out to capture to see if anyone wants to join me (mostly on Saturday and Sunday night).

In Tyria:

One significant area to capture elite skills is Perdition Rock (outside Ember Light Camp). This area has a couple bosses of each profession in different parts of the zone. Building a cap group there would offer a full group a chance at several, but it requires characters that are pretty far along.

Most of the zones in the southern shiverpeaks have multiple bosses of different professions.

In Cantha:

Mourning Veil Falls (Kurzick) and Rhea's Crater (Luxon) appear to be areas that have several bosses of different professions, but also require characters that have finished all but the last 3 missions.

Both the areas around HzH and Cavalon also have a lot of elite skills available.

Dragon's Lair (?) has bosses of all professions. That could be a good place for cap plus i got like 3 gold, 5 purps, and 7 blues on one run alone :)

Mineral Springs is another great multi-profession capping spot.
It's way far out in the Shiverpeaks, and the closest place to start from is Granite Citadel.

Warrior - Flourish
Ranger - Practiced Stance
Monk - Shield of Judgment
Necromancer - Well of Power
Mesmer - Ineptitude
Elementalist - Glyph of Energy

Also, something I just found out, there is a Seer in the NE corner of Mineral Springs, so if you need your armor infused, you can get that done there, too.

Some of the missions in Cantha have elites for most of the classes, so if we did have a big group and different characters this would be a good idea.

Like Tahnnaki Temple, it has a skill cap for each profession.
Bound Kitah (Arcane Languor), Mesmer
Bound Naku (Wail of Doom), Necromancer
Bound Teinai (Star Burst), Elementalist
Bound Karei (Spell Breaker), Monk
Bound Jaizhanju (Auspicious Parry), Warrior
Bound Zojun (Famine), Ranger
Bound Kaolai (Defiant Was Xinrae), Rit.
Bound Vizu (Shroud of Silence), Assassain

Also Vizunah Square has skill cap for each profession.

The Afflicted Ako - Enraged Smash, Warrior
The Afflicted Huan - Broad Head Arrow, Ranger
The Afflicted Miju - Ray of Judgment, Monk
The Afflicted Thu - Order of Apostasy,Necromancer
The Afflicted Li Yun - Stolen Speed, Mesmer
The Afflicted Kam - Mind Burn, Elementalist
The Afflicted Soon Kim - Shadow Form, Assassain
The Afflicted Hakaru - Weapon of Quickening, Ritualist

Got all this from Guildwiki, just a thought if we had a big group.

Sounds awesome then. I wont be on today (Saturday) because of a concert. BU ill be on sunday night...I guess people will be doing this like all day?

Last night i capped 4 skills with my ranger, I got Escape, Melhandru's shot(i think thats what its called), Martyr, and Cripiling shot. Tonight im thinking about goind with my monk or Necro of anyone wants to come.
