Apparently David Cage has been lurking on our forums

But while Cage admits to being a dictator over his development team, he calls his leadership style a "benevolent dictatorship," where anyone can try to sell good ideas. "I have to be honest and make sure there's no ego involved, that just because it's my idea it's a better idea," he said. "The people around me are not fanboys, they are really critical of what I'm doing and how I'm doing it, and I'm really thankful for that."

Can we charge him for using that phrase? Could someone write up an invoice and send it to his office?

And as a bonus, we'll even throw in the heretofore-ToJ-exclusive BD4L acronym AND a catchy slogan:

"Benevolent dictatorship: When democracy just won't cut it."

Benevolent Dictatorship - I have no idea what David Cage was referring to, but I came across this this morning:

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." — C.S. Lewis

Not a comment on Cage, just an interesting sequitur.

I think Lazarus is correct. I recall Fidel Castro being referred to as a benevolent dictator for most of my lifetime.

I seem to recall it was Icthus that first mentioned that word as we were brainstorming for a name for the Warhammer leader. We were using known titles during that conversation. I don't remember anyone suggesting that it was a made up word. I certainly thought it was a familiar term when I first heard it.

We termed it Benevolent Dictator for Life- BD4L

All rights reserved and we get a nickel anytime someone uses it.

LOL - actually that was Kennedy and Khrushchev - Castro was a bit player in all that. I remember having weekly siren alerts and practicing getting under our desks at school in case of an attack.

I predict massive amounts of fail in the PR department.

However isn't this just about the attitude of every CEO on earth?

I just read the "benevolent dictator" phrase in an H. Beam Piper story, "Hunter Patrol", last night.
