Babo, totally completely hates(strongly dislikes) ATI at the moment....he is a few minutes short of going off on a total rampage....his computer goes through cycles (sometimes i wonder if it is a female video card)....seems like it just desided to not work and makes his screen have all these lines in it...he is fed up with it and can't figure out how to make it work....he tries uninstalling drivers and re-installing, he tries some other stuff too....and then about the time he is about to give up it will start working again.....but this time it isn't doing that so he took the video card out of my machine and put it in his --- and the problem was solved...........so....yeah

what should he do? any suggestions on a new video card????

Lets see, he has a ATI 9800 i believe. An equally powerfull card on the nvidia side would be about a fx 5950. I'd go with a geforce Nvidia 6600 AGP or higher card for games like source. If you want some nvidia cards, here is a list of some good brand manufactured nvidia (since nvidia does not directly make or ship thier cards like ati does):

Well I don't know what type of motherboard you have so.....But for a video card I would suggest an XFX GeForce 6600 GT 128 PCI-E VideoCard

get a different video cable going to your monitor and replace the one you are currently using with it. This may help.
reseat your video card a couple of times before putting the screw back in.
